Friends: My Nephew, Juan Mendez, just received a DOUBLE HEART AND LIVER TRANSPLANT on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
Juan had been waitng for a Heart and Liver transplant for quite some time and unable to work depending on Social Security benefits only.
To make matters worse, his wife, July Mendez, a Nurse (CNA) had her own personal bout with Cancer (and survived) but had to stop working for her own health and to take care of Juan because his health had been declining in recent months.
They live in New Jersey and had to constanly travel to Philadelphia 3 or 4 times a week for ckeck ups for Juan and to check and calibrate the Machine that was keeping him alive.
For the last 68 days Juan has been hospitalized in Temple University Hosptital in Philadelphia because his Doctors determined that he needed constant care and moved him to the top of the Priority list to receive a Heart and Liver transplant.
Well, Monday, December 14, 2015 the GOOD NEWS came that a compatible DONOR had been found and Juan was to receive the GREATEST CHRISTMAS GIFT A MAN CAN EVER GET. A NEW HEART AND A NEW LIVER.
The Miracle he and his Wife July and his Family had been praying for was about to become a reality.
Juan and July are people of deep, strong FAITH and even in the midst of all this turmoil in their lives they kept their FAITH in ONE LIVING GOD in first place and upfront.
Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 7Am, Juan entered the Surgery Room and 22 hours later came out VICTORIOUS IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUSCHRIST WHOSE BIRTHDAT WE CELEBRATE.
JUAN RECEIVED THE GREATEST CHRISTMAS GIFT EVER, A NEW HEART AND A NEW LIVER that will allow him to live a long, fulfilling life with his Wife July and his kids.
It has been 6 days and he is getting stronger. But, and this is a big but, the financial stress is great. With neither one of them working and depending only on Social Security it really has put an economic burden on them, on top of the emotional roller coaster. We all know that the cost of a Surgery of this magnitude is astronomical, Not only a Heart transplant but also a Liver transplant. The months ahead are crucial for his recuperation and the cost will be high for the part that is not covered by Medicare. His care, travel expenses, medications, etc will be high to say the least.
