RIP Jess - Help Pay Her Vet Bill
Donation protected
My name is Dani and this is for my sister's dog, Jess.
Jess was a mini foxie cross and a beloved member of our family. My mum and sister recently moved from Australia to New Zealand and have been saving up to fly Jess over. Of course I was happy to help look after her in the meantime.
Last week, Jess was attacked and killed in her own yard (my yard). My neighbor's dogs jumped the too-short (less than 3ft) fence and bit and shook her to death. We had to hit the offending dog with a broom to get it to drop her. I will never forget seeing Jess in that way; I am only thankful my sister did not see it. The past week has been a nightmare and I've struggled to get over the images and sounds from that day.
We raced Jess to the nearby vet (with the help of another neighbor - thank you). They were excellent but she unfortunately died of blood loss and shock within the hour. Her total bill was for $525: xrays, painkillers, IV fluids and disposal of her body. (I will upload the invoice soon.)
Initially the offending neighbor was remorseful and understanding, agreeing to pay the vet bill - as is his responsibility. However in the week since he has made it clear he will mess us around to the ends of the earth. He is, in fact, on the run with his dogs to avoid any repercussions of his negligence. Consequently as of today we have decided to make this a police/legal issue - and it could take months to end.
However, this tragedy has taken a financial toll as well as an emotional one. My partner and I had recently moved to Brisbane city QLD and we are both students - we paid for her bill out of pocket on the day and are now struggling to make ends meet. It is unbelievably stressful and I'm so regretful in putting this difficulty on my partner as well as my family.
Please help us if you are able. The funds raised here could cover her final vet costs plus credit interest. No one should have to see their dog in that situation - yet alone unprovoked and in her own back yard - and then be in financial difficulty on top of losing their pet.
In memory of little Jess, who we miss every day.
Thank you.
