Our QB's Fight Against Cancer

My name is Earl Chornsbay (Coach Earl), speaking on behalf of the entire Piedmont Steeler community and Coach TJ and Coach Brad.  We're here to give Dakota Roseborough (shown above) the same respect and help that he's given us as our starting quarterback of the Piedmont Steelers 10U football team.  We know without a doubt that he will continue to be our leader and show us the true definition of strength and courage.

On Monday October 17th, 2016 practice was held and it was just a typical practice.  Nothing too far out of the ordinary.  Dakota is full of spirit, laughter, goofing off with his teammates and we as coaches were constantly having to calm him and everyone else down.

Partially through practice Dakota asked  if he could move from his QB position so that he could run the ball and hit a few people.  Collectively, we as coaches, try to keep the QB from taking too many hits and asked him to do other things and we continued with practice without giving it much thought.  We asked him to focus on continuing to make good handoffs and to focus on being the leader on the field.  Practice came to a conclusion while everyone was reminded to be at practice the following day.  Not realizing how important those decisions may have been.  God guides us even though we're blind.

That night, Dakota had a few out of the ordinary things going on that didn't seem right.  He was also complaining about a headache.  Dakota was then off to the hospital where the doctors noticed a mass on his brain and was then immediately rushed to Levine Children's hospital in Charlotte, NC.  He required pressure and fluid to be removed from his brain while a biopsy was performed.  The doctors didn't need to wait for the biopsy results due to other results and have since then prescribed a 6-month cycle of chemo and radiation.

Dakota is headed down a very long and strenuous path that takes its toll on adults.  I personally can't imagine going through it, much less as a 10 year old.  Physically this is going to be one of the toughest battles that he and his parents will ever experience and having to do this at his age is impossible to comprehend.  Dakota you are about to face a formidable opponent but and I can't emphasize the "BUT" enough... Cancer has lost.  You will have every parent, every football player, and every coach behind you the entire time.  #dakotastrong

Any help for our quarterback, friend, and family member will be greatly appreciated.  The funds raised will be immediately distributed to the family to help cover the costs of expenses, travel, bills, and this will also help make it easier for his parents to focus on what's most important... Dakota.

We as a community will and always will be eternally greatful for any help given to help one amazing little dude.
