Gary's Cancer/Medical Fund

In the Spring of 2015 our dear friend, husband, father and grandfather: Gary Cummings, was counting the days to retirement. He was so excited about all the things he was going to be able to do with family and friends ~ spending his days golfing, boating, camping and just plain enjoying life. As we all dream of - this new phase of life was going to be everything one dreams of when you look at the “golden years” - exciting, fun, and carefree.  Little did he know that within 3 months of this long awaited life event, would he be presented with a life event of a different kind:  stage 4 kidney cancer - which he learned a short time later had moved also to his bones and liver.  As he has tackled everything in life, Gary, and his loving wife, Lorica began exploring and learning all they could to find a way to deter this new event so that he could get back on track to enjoying retirement.
Within weeks of his diagnosis Gary was accepted in to a new cancer trial at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Since November Gary has been traveling a minimum of 2X a month to Boston for treatments and checkups with hopes of stopping this disease from spreading. As we all know, trials are amazing in that you are on the cutting edge of medical breakthroughs, but they are not free as some might think. There are still many expenses not covered by insurance: medicines that are needed to assist with pain and treatment, copays for the countless appointments, tests, and unknowns in this journey. The cost of travel alone, from their home in Bath to Boston twice a month(and sometimes more)is financial out-of-pocket burden. They have found that using the train puts less stress on traveling during the winter months- alleviating the worry for Lorica to drive in inclement weather. Then there are hotel costs, as they spend the night in a hotel each trip, making it less taxing on Gary as he gets into the heart of his chemo treatment. Our hopes are that you can find it in your heart to help support Gary and Lorica as he faces this unexpected turn in life’s retirement road. My husband and I ask for your support for our dear friend Gary, making it possible for him to put his entire energy into fighting the battle of his life, and to alleviate some of their financial burden that has been incurred and will continue to mount throughout his treatment.
