Hi, My name is Gene, and the lady in the photo there is my mother Mary. That picture was taken a few years ago during a much happier time in both our lives. This is really a last resort option for us, and it kills me to have to do this.
My Mother's Story
Just over a year ago my mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer in one of her Lymph Nodes. Thank God that it was only located in one of them, as the doctor's said that more than one would be very tough to try and help. After prescribing an intensive course of over 6 months of both radiation and chemotherapy, the tumor had shrunk enough that the doctor's thought surgery would not be necessary to remove the lymph node, and that with regular checkups everything would go ok.
Fast forward another 6 months and MANY bills later...my mother's leg swelled up and upon going back to the doctor, t was found that not only does she have blood clots in the leg, the cancer is back in the lymph node and it is blocking lymphatic fluid from draining, hence the swelling in the leg. This was just over a month ago. After being treated with blood thinnner(warfarin) for the blood clots, she was prescribed a particularly intense chemotherapy treatment. The first round was so bad, that she ended up back in the hospital for over a week hooked up to an IV because she couldn't eat and was very dehydrated...everything made her sick.
Upon her release from the hospital, she had to return for shots to increase her white blood cell count so that she would not become sick or get an infection, and so she could continue with her chemo treatments.
So, on 3/26/2015 she returned for the next round of chemo, a different chemotherapy which was supposed to be a little easier on the body. She remained in the hospital directly after the treatment in order to recieve two blood transfusions...the chemo could have given her a heart attack, so in order to prevent this, she needed the transfusions...12 hours later and she was home again.
This battle has raged for over a year now and the bills have piled up for not only her treatments, but also for our normal everyday bills. I currently have a good job, but in the past few months with having to take a leave of abscense for some time, and then returning to my hours being cut to between 10-15 hours per week, I have fallen far behind on making payments for our normal household bills as well.
It is tough enough to have to watch my mother go through this but even harder to have to start this fund, so, thank you all for taking the time to read this, and if you decide you would like to help, for being so very generous.
