This crowd funding campaign was created by the friends of Melinda Ferszt with the goal of providing practical support to meet the challenges which lie ahead of Melinda and her family.

As you can see from these photos Melinda is a beautiful, vibrant young woman but she has recently been diagnosed with cancer with a very poor prognosis.  She hasn't been desperately ill for a long time, so this diagnosis has come as a shock and shaken us all to our core.  The doctors have essentially thrown their hands in the air and said there is nothing they can do so she and we (her friends and family) are devastated – but determined to do everything we can to support Melinda through this.

Let me tell you a little about Melinda.  She is a loving wife and mother to 2 beautiful little girls.  She is a devoted daughter, sister and aunt.  She is a loyal and dependable friend.   She is a diligent and supportive colleague who works tirelessly in support of children’s charities.  She is a kind and generous soul who never fails to enquire after others, even when she is facing her own challenges.  Melinda is one of those people who brightens the day of everyone she encounters with her warm and gentle manner.  She is solid gold.

The doctors say there is nothing to be done but that doesn’t mean we do nothing.  Melinda and her adoring husband Mark are looking at every possible treatment which might buy her time with her beloved daughters who are only 4 and 8 years old and who need their mummy.   Most of the therapies given to people in Melinda’s position are not covered under the national health service and they are all very costly.

Friends and colleagues have asked how they can help, and this is it.  What we are asking via this platform is for people to give what they can and share this post as far and wide as possible to help Melinda and Mark meet the medical bills which are coming and alleviate some of the stress, so they can spend their time and energy together with their girls.

Time is of the essence so please help NOW!

A quick note to let you all know the procedures went perfectly to plan without any complications!
It’s a waiting game now to see how my body responds.
We will know more in a couple of weeks, but I’ll likely have to undergo the same procedure again within a month in either Japan or Germany.
I’ve made the decision to get back home to be with my babies over the next few weeks while we gauge my response and decide next steps.
Thanks again for all your loving support, I wouldn’t be here without you all

Melinda is now in Osaka, Japan for treatment as per her previous update a few days ago; we are all praying for a great response to treatment.

I’d like to share this recent heartfelt video of support for Melinda from Natalie Bassingwaithe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBUzlh4Q55k&feature=youtu.be

Hello friends & family,

After my sobering set-back and reality check 5 weeks ago with the hospital confirming that my remaining liver tumours had begun to resist chemotherapy and that the cancerous cells had started to actively increase again in size ... well my weekly blood tests are indicating that everything has stabilized for the time being.

It has been an extremely challenging time of great uncertainty for me where I have felt in limbo between the orthodox and conservative treatment pathway that the local hospital would like me to proceed with, ultimately leading to one unthinkable outcome, versus waiting for access to continued overseas treatments that gives me hope via a more personalized and targeted treatment approach.

I have very fortunately just been accepted this week by a hospital in Osaka for consultation and possible cutting-edge targeted liver treatment next week. Mark & I depart for Japan this Tuesday. The therapies will complement and tie in with the previous treatments I have undertaken in Japan which is vital.

On the bright-side, I am lucky Osaka have opened a door for me. If I don’t take this opportunity, the alternative is to undertake at least 3 more months of full-dose, heavily toxic chemotherapy locally before they re-assess my condition and then consider my case BUT with no guarantees that I'll get any other treatment beyond chemo.

“I don’t need easy; I just need possible”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has helped me in so many ways.

Love Min xxx

What follows is the latest update from Melinda on her condition. Let it serve as a reminder that the battle is far from won and the stakes have just been raised. Let's not let money be the reason Melinda does not receive treatment. Please read on and use every tool and contact you have to help Melinda access treatment which will help her survive this terrible disease. <3<3<3

Over the past couple of days I’ve been devastated to learn of significant set-backs in my response to my ongoing cancer treatments. Molecular level blood tests and PET CT scans conducted this week have revealed that my cancer mutations have re-emerged in my bloodstream, my remaining liver lesions have grown in size and activity of the cancer cells has increased. It’s been quite a shock and a sobering wake-up call as to the seriousness of my condition as only a month ago I had received my very best results in terms of lowest tumour marker levels, and a repaired immune system from the treatments in Japan.

It appears that after 15 rounds of full-dose chemotherapy, the last 3 rounds have done me more harm than good with the toxicity of the drugs compromising some of the previous excellent results. The cancer is signalling that it has developed resistance to the chemotherapy and is regathering its strength to resume its charge. However, the good news is that the liver tumours are still relatively small in size, the cancer has not spread to any other organs, and the host tumour in the bowel remains dormant.

Time is now critical, and after consultation with our specialist oncologist in Sydney and our cancer consultant, I’ve begun taking targeted additional medicine sourced from Germany to disrupt the communication between the cancer cells. We are seeking specialty types of ‘targeted’ liver cancer treatment suitable to my genetic profile not available in Australia. We’re awaiting further instruction from specialists in Japan, but there may be an option in Osaka if I am accepted, with possibility of going within 2 weeks.

I owe my life to your love & support and am touched by the generosity of the human spirit to help in my fight for a miracle for my family xox
