Purple Heart Dog Kennel

Purple Heart Kennel is a non kill shelter in St. Landry Parish. We are hoping to help wounded dogs in the area and surrounding areas not only do we want to take in wounded dogs but also strays. We want to be able to have a setup for them to live happy until we find them forever homes. However it is expensive taking in these dogs and giving them the area they need and the medical attention. Everything so far has been all out of pocket. We want to get all these dogs there shots have them checked and get them all spayed! We also want to be able to save dogs from the shelter that are about to be out down due to lack of space at our shelters. Stray dogs are a big problem in this area Purple Heart Kennel was created after one of my own dogs was shot walking home from down my gravel road after playing at a friend of mines house he went with her and her kids played when I got home from work he was shot in the leg. I brought him to the vet and found out it was way worse than I could have imagined. They wanted to put him down , that was something I couldn't imagine doing. I brought him get a second opinion that's when it was decided that if he had any chance at surviving awe needed to amputate right away. I was broken hearted and worried how I was going to be able to pay for such a expensive surgery but with the Help of my uncle ( Ira Landry ) and cousin (Kaye Nichol) we came together and got him takin care of :) Well after we got him home and settled I noticed a dog down my road walking very hurt. A neighbor said they heard gun shots and then seen him running screaming they tried to take him in and help him but they didn't have the finances to do so. So again Ira , Kaye , and Myself took this dog in brought him to the vet ( Otis ) That is when we found out he was shot with a shot gun and had BB’s all over in his body two that broke his arm in two spots. Right now he is in a splint for 6 weeks , if that doesn't work he will be another dog that has to lose a leg just because he didn't have a home . We sadly have not found out who is shooting all these dogs. The police have been contacted and are investigating we are praying that someone comes forward with information. This just breaks my heart and we want to do our part in hopefully preventing this from happening again and saving dogs life. Think of all the dogs we can save from the street and from shelters ! We also plan on having a area for boarding dogs and grooming them as well to help support the Shelter. We have some shirts being made to sell and occasionally will sell plate lunches all monies go to supporting Purple Heart Kennel. We will accept any material that may help us Kennels , Dogs beds , Toys , Dog food , Food Bowls , Water Bowls , etc. Anything That may help us and for donations please see the go fund me link.
