"Purple Eyeshadow" Thesis Film

Background: "Purple Eyeshadow" will be my very last film at Syracuse University. It is going to be my most personal and intimate story to date, centered on themes that are often tabooed or rarely talked about at all, such as sex, exploration, independence, love, and the fluidity of gender and attraction. These subjects have very much defined my own growth into a young woman, and I therefore hope to make my audience see these subjects in a new and personal light through this semi-fictional story.
The Story: This film follows Sera, as she finally has the chance to explore her sexuality now that she has moved on from her ex. She puts his things away into a shoebox and gets ready for a night out. She brings home a boy, but is clearly bored by him, and simultaneously finds herself in a room with an odd box that contains a pair of plain white socks. As she further explores sexuality as a form of liberation, the box gets larger and its contents become more delicious, fun, and beautiful. However, when she begins to have deeper feelings for someone, a new box appears and she refuses to enjoy its contents.
Style: I am taking a heavy surrealistic approach to this story, with unconventional lighting strategies, dream-like set design, and costumes and makeup that reflect each characters own developing individualities. This will be the most stylized film I have ever created, taking inspiration from David Lynch, Panos Cosmatos, and Věra Chytilová.
