OUR GOAL

We want your help to bring the heritage and iconography of Greenham Common Peace Women into the hands of the public.

In the spirit of Greenham, we want to commission a number of visual works in direct response to the voices and stories told by the peace women.

It is intended that these works be used to promote the iconography and legacy of Greenham Common Peace Women.

WHY?

Greenham Common Peace Camp was established in 1981 to protest the siting of 94 American nuclear missiles at RAF Greenham Common in Berkshire.

It quickly became the first and only women-led peace camp and its scale and influence would be unparalleled in recent British history.

Women from all over the world braved every weather and the wrath of Thatcher’s Tory establishment to protest peacefully and creatively.

In a time before the internet and mobile phones, Greenham women and their supporters organised numerous demonstrations like “Embrace the Base” in 1982, where 30,000 women held hands around the 9 mile perimeter fence.

WHO ARE WE?

Since January 2019 we have supported volunteers to interview approximately 100 of the remaining living Greenham women about the truths behind the tabloids, the arrests, imprisonment and evictions, and most of all, the uniquely female, funny, creative but profoundly effective methods of non-violent protest.

YOUR DONATIONS WILL MAKE POSSIBLE...

1) Artistic imagery in response to the testimonies of the Greenham women, including those from Greenham women themselves, contributing to our understanding of this chapter of women’s history.

2) A Greenham-influenced banner to be made by Diane Goldie, a specialist in bespoke  appliqué and painting as wearable art. Diane creates one-of-a-kind textiles using memories, pictures and voices as her inspiration.

3) Paintings, cartoons and illustrations from Kayleigh Hilsdon, Emma Bray and Jacky Fleming inspired by the oral narratives of Greenham women, translating them into visual images, symbols and collective representations.

4) The banner and artworks will form part of nationwide exhibition tour  that will attend 20 venues across the UK during 2019.

5) Memory swaps and art exhibitions of the work the Greenham women made themselves during and after their time at the camp to run alongside the tour dates.

6) Artworks and interviews will be available to the public in a specially designed website.

Any donations over our costs will go to support the efforts of the Greenham Women Everywhere project in raising awareness of the complex herstory of this campaign.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
