Professional Film Critic Site

I know what you're thinking. Why did the world need yet another website devoted to movie reviews? The difference, though, is that I'm not some amateur fanboy who only reviews superhero movies and doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're." Instead, I'm an award-winning film critic with 30 years of experience and thousands of reviews to offer. The site I created is Film Frenzy and it can be accessed at www.thefilmfrenzy.com.

I was with the alternative newsweekly Creative Loafing in Charlotte, NC, for decades, and, in addition to serving as the publication's sole film reviewer, I also toiled at various points over the years as Senior Editor, Arts & Entertainment Editor, and Interim Editor-in-Chief. I'm the recipient of approximately a dozen awards from both the North Carolina Press Association and the North Carolina Working Press, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the 15 Short Film Festival. I'm a longtime member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association (SEFCA) and previously served as the organization's President and Vice President. My reviews currently also appear in the alternative newsweekly Connect Savannah in Savannah, Ga.

Creative Loafing recently ended its 31-year run, meaning it seemed like the perfect time to start my own website. I figured it would be beneficial to offer a website that houses all my reviews — past, present, and future. My reviews have always covered all decades, from the silent era through the present, which is a blessing for true film aficionados. While too many film sites today only cover contemporary cinema (and often only titles in the fantasy genre), I have always taken pains to review movies (usually through my weekly Blu-ray/DVD column) from all eras. On my site, you'll be able to check out reviews of such modern hits as Black Panther, A Quiet Place and A Star Is Born, but you'll also be able to read reviews of older films as diverse as Double Indemnity, Midnight Cowboy, Romancing the Stone, and Night of the Lepus (that's the one with the killer bunny rabbits). Thousands of titles will be placed in the database, from A (the hilarious Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein) to Z (the horrific Zoolander 2). And, of course, I will continue to add new releases, as I will still be attending screenings each and every week in order to get those hot and fresh reviews up on opening day. Lastly, the site will also include occasional feature stories, including annual ones devoted to the Oscars, film festivals, and year-end Best & Worst lists.

Film Frenzy launched in late 2018, but to continue this ambitious enterprise, I can always use assistance from anyone who cares to offer it. Funds are still needed for the usual suspects, including (but not limited to) continued payments for a web host and a domain name as well as funds for lost productivity as I continue to work feverishly on making the site bigger and better. In these strapped times, finances are tight for everyone, but if you're a movie lover who's been yearning for an all-inclusive review site, then feel free to throw a quarter into the hat. In the immortal words of George M. Cohan (played by an Oscar-winning James Cagney) in 1942's Yankee Doodle Dandy, "My mother thanks you. My father thanks you. My sister thanks you. And I thank you."
