What's this about?

Private-Parts: A Documentary on Sex Ed and Democracy
explores the personal effects that the Ontario sex education curriculum change has had on its’ students, teachers and parents, told from their own words and shown through their daily lives.

Ford has reverted the 2015 curriculum back to the 1998 one, which excludes topics like consent, the LGBTQ+ community, indigenous culture and cyber-bullying - topics that the 2015 curriculum required to be taught.

Thousands of children are now learning that their families, their sexuality or gender are not ‘normal’ enough to be mentioned in their schooling. This film is incredibly important because it is critical to portray these families and students and give them a chance to voice their opinions.

My name is Ava Harness and I will be directing this film alongside producer, Sarah Rahimi during the last year of our Ryerson film degree.

Funds Needed

In order to get the true scope of all opinions, we are travelling across Ontario to interview politicians, adminstrators, students and families. Your funds will go toward us travelling the province and filming footage. The damaging fallout from this curriculum change is unfolding currently and if you want to support all of the people affected this is one way that you can.

We are filming between now until the end of January, and will also be going to any protests that come up over the course of that time, and will need to pay a music composer and possibly pay for any artwork we may use, that our subjects have made on the topic.

Why Support?

With your support, we will be able to reach everyone that wants to be a part of the film and we will be able to create material that showcases the heart of the problem.

It is a time of social-political chaos. With this interim curriculum in place future generations of adults are going to be suffering the damages of current ignorance. Ford’s decision is signalling a change in how our country works. A change, that needs to be recognized and stopped.

Ultimately, that is what this documentary aims to do.

A donation of any amount is significantly helpful and immensely appreciated.
