PRIDE PUNX @ Pride in London Parade

We may get angry, run riot and lose our minds, but it all comes from a place of love.

My name is Tali and I'm an independent filmmaker, tireless optimist and unabashed romantic.
I'm also a ramshackle punk who's utterly enamoured by the music and a firm believer in the ethics and ideals it upholds.

I am looking to raise some money to help run the first ever punk rock float at the Pride in London Parade on 25th June 2016.
I'm putting a bunch of live bands on the back of an 18 tonne lorry who will play their hearts out as we drive it through the centre of London as part of the parade.  We're going to have a moving crowd following the bands, creating that electrifying energy that only ever comes from live music.
I already have the spot, and in true DIY spirit have gathered a wealth of support and am charging on with making it happen.

A bit of background to the idea:

When making a film about the closure of the iconic 12 Bar Club in London's Soho last year, I started to make the connection between the independent alternative music scenes and the LGBTQI scenes; almost always originally confined to the neglected inner city parts of town, they then expand, thrive and electrify the area, making them cultural hubs for the entire city, not just the epicentre of the small scenes they originate from. Then, in due course, the area becomes desirable, and the very things that made it so are forced out; lifelines severed, and the culture of the area dies.

I then found myself at the Pride in Berlin Parade that summer and I'm not gonna lie, I left with tears in my eyes (ok maybe this is where the unabashed romantic part of me comes to the fore). I was so touched by the absolute joy emanating from every person there; celebrating love, life, freedom and acceptance.  Because these are all aspects championed by the punk ethos, this is the only thing I felt was missing from this glorious celebration. I was also saddened not to see a queer punk presence, and as music is such a strong part of people's lives; fuelling and influencing their hearts, passions and choices, the omission of such a strong musical force could be alienating and isolating a big part of the community.

On chatting to some queer punk friends back in London, they mentioned not ever wanting to go to many gay bars and events because they didn't like the music.
This is when I really felt the need for a grand mainstream gesture in bringing these 2 scenes together, which will hopefully have an on-going effect as we move forward in such exciting and scary times.
So I created Pride Punx - a non-profit community group -  to help lead this little adventure into people's open hearts and minds.
Total unity is needed now more than ever, and this is my small contribution to that.

I want to represent the queer punks of this city.
I want to celebrate the love and open-armed acceptance that true punk rock is all about.
I want to champion true equality, and the power of any person to stand up and be whoever they want to be.

I'm doing this with the help of some amazing friends, but there are still a lot of outside costs.
Your kind donations will be used on hiring the lorry, insurance, float design, promotion and health & safety at the event.

If you would like to donate as part of an organisation or group and would like a banner displayed on the float then please get in touch with me directly via the message option on this page.

The event is on Saturday 25th June. To get the ball rolling, I have put in my own savings but aim to fundraise before, during and after that date to make this wonderful event everything it can be.
Your donations are welcome at any time.

I'm a firm believer in unity, and this is unity music.
Everyone welcome so please come get involved!
