Stop Man-Made Flooding in Houston

Houston will always flood, but when it floods unnecessarily - when lives are ruined when they don't have to be - something MUST BE DONE to prevent that.
The group Residents Against Flooding, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, is working to stop man-made flooding by suing the City of Houston to remedy this unnecessary situation.
The City has not acted in an emergency manner - not done everything humanly possible to lessen the impact of Mother Nature. Design rules have not been enforced on developers, grandfathering and loopholes have been allowed. Instead of detaining their own storm water run-off, for-profit businesses are using neighborhood living rooms as their detention basins. It saves them a lot of money.
People should not lose their homes, precious belongings, retirement, and, in some cases, their health because of greed, politics, and power.
The City is good at making promises to build more detention basins and to improve drainage and bayous. Yet even when put into a contract, and signed by Mayor Brown 13 years ago, those promises turned out to be worthless. Several "hundred-year-floods" later, the detention basins and drainage improvements have not happened. And things are getting worse. Neighborhoods that have never flooded are flooding again and again and again.
Residents Against Flooding has filed a lawsuit in federal court to force the City of Houston into protecting its citizens from man-made, preventable flooding. The nonprofit has tried for SEVEN years to get the City to end grandfathering, enforce drainage rules, and amend laws to no avail. If flooding is this bad now, God help us when we have a hurricane. The Astrodome may have to become a shelter for Houston's own citizens!
Donations are needed to fund the next phase of the lawsuit. Remember, even if your home has never flooded, a lot of recent flood victims had never flooded before either. They don't live in flood plains, but when surrounding properties are elevated, and concrete is poured without proper water detention, the crisis can only get worse and more widespread.
The one thing you can do to protect your family, your friends, your neighbors, is to donate to the cause that will bring about action. Donations are tax-deductible.
