On June 29th, Preston Thompson of Preston Thompson Guitars  in Sisters, Oregon underwent serious surgery  at Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland. Unfortunately, his surgery resulted in complications and required additional surgeries and life support.

Preston was in the OHSU Intensive Care Unit for over 50 days and still remains in the hospital with complications. His recovery has been slow and he will still need months of rehabilitation after he is discharged from the hospital.

Preston and his wife Julie live in beautiful Bend, Oregon, over 3 hours away from OHSU.  Julie has had to take a leave of absence from her job to remain with Preston at OHSU. This entails her having to make numerous trips over the Cascade Mountains and find temporary lodging in Portland.

Preston’s daughter along with wonderful friends have been an enormous source of encouragement during this time, and give Preston the motivation to get stronger every day.

Preston has a goal. It is to get home and resume working with his fantastic Thompson Guitar crew. Building exceptional guitars has been his passion since he began Thompson Guitars over 30 years ago.

The family wants to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, texts, and well wishes. Donations will directly help offset medical and travel expenses. Every little bit helps. Thank you all for your love and kindness.

This web page was set up by a group of friends to try to help Preston and Julie through this rough spot in life's road.  All donations are managed by the Thompson family.

To all of you that supported Preston an our family through this difficult time.....Thank You.
As you know Preston passed away April 11th.
We are going to close down the Go Fund Me.
I believe I thanked everyone individually- If I missed you I'm sorry.
With all of your help,we have not been terribly impacted by the medical bills. We were so touched by your thoughtful notes and good wishes. They were, and still are, a comfort to us as we work through this loss. You are all so generous and kind.
Preston leaves a growing successful business with the best crew to continue his work.
Piper and I send you our gratitude and appreciation.
Love,Julie and Piper

Wonderful news! Preston is home! After 7 months at OHSU in Portland and a little over a month at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, he is now healing in the comfort of his own home. While at home he will receive regular visits from nurses and physical therapy, in preparation for his next and hopefully last surgery in Portland.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank you SO much for the support we have received from all of you. My heart is so warm. We could not have gotten to this place without your kindness.

Please continue to follow his progress and check out the Go Fund Me. Preston is working to get back to the shop and continue working with the crew at Thompson Guitars. Building guitars was his dream and is his motivation to get back to work as soon as possible.

Preston is back in Bend!
He is at St Charles in the Rehabilitation Unit. I believe he will be here for a couple of weeks. After that home, until he is strong enough for the next (hopefully the last) surgery.
His medical needs are still very complicated and still a long road ahead, but he is close to home and friends.
I can not thank you all enough for the positive energy, love and support. We could not have come this far with out you. Preston, Piper and I are so touched by the support from family, friends, colleagues the Bluegrass community and yes strangers.
We are going to get him back in the Shop with the Crew doing what he loves, working with the crew building and designing amazing instruments.
Cheers,
Julie
