Praying for James "Eric" Cook Jr.

On Saturday afternoon, Harnett County Deputy James "Eric" Cook Jr. responded to a wooded area near H.M. Cagle Drive following up with the investigation of a missing persons report. Deputy Cook was at this time shot in the chest and face and rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Per his family, he is still in stable condition, in the SICU at UNC Chapel Hill. His medical team is making sure there is no continued internal bleeding. He is still intubated, sedated, and although he hasn't opened his eyes, he is responding to commands. They are calling in a cranial and facial reconstruction specialist but unfortunately, Eric is still too swollen for surgery. They are hoping they can perform procedures maybe early this upcoming week. He has also suffered a bad burn to his chest. Officials say that the bulletproof vest saved his life.
He is a wonderful husband, amazing father, faithful christian, friend to SO many and overall, a truly exceptional man. Deputy Cook truly has a servant's heart. He receives immense joy from helping others, especially in his local community. He has been a dedicated member of Benhaven Emergency Services for 18 years, where he currently serves as a Fire Captain. He has also been with the Harnett County Sheriff's Office for 11 years. When he isn't in his community serving others, he enjoys spending time with his wife, 4 year old daughter and newborn son.
