Prayers for Christopher
A very important young person in our community Christopher Yon - Simon (16 yrs old) went yesterday for a routine Sinus check up and the doctors found a LARGE MASS/TUMOR growing at the base of his skull. The size of the mass is impeding the proper return of Cerebral fluid to his spinal column and causing swelling on the brain. There is no reasonable medical explanation that Christopher was not suffering from further complications of seizure or other neurological problems. He is beginning a journey of brain surgery estimated for 6-8 hours today. The tumor will need to be biopsied to rule out any cancer. This is expected to be a long recovery.
This is Christopher’s post prior to surgery:
“As some of you may know, I am in the hospital for a brain tumor. For all of you who are worried, all you guys can do for me is remain calm and pray for me as I enter surgery to be tumor-free. Pray that I will be safe, that all goes well, and that YOU will stay calm as I am now. I wish you all a good night and a good weekend. See you all soon!”
This young man is a LIVING MIRACLE who needs your prayers and support. He is the example of the precious presence of every hour of every day, for no one knows their time or where their destiny lies.
Christopher Yon is a Student of South Lakes High School in the IB program and honor role. He works hard at two jobs; Lifeguard in Hunter’s Woods Reston Community Center and Ledo’s. Christopher is an important part of his community in Reston. He regularly volunteers in Reston and as part of the family of Reston Community Church. He is an amazing support to his mother and his sister (12 years old).
We so appreciate your loving support as we launch this GO FUND ME...in support of Christopher Yon - Simon whos family is going to need your support immediately!
We are Allen and Jody Schissler / Jan Hanus and Alison Adams and we all are from Reston, VA. Rosa Simon is our close family friend in need. The Schissler’s family is helping Rosa and Christopher on daily basis. Christopher and his family have a long way ahead of them starting with relocating to Boston of Philadelphia for a six week radiation treatment and then long chemotherapy. Rosa will use the funds to pay for the stay and live away from home and some medical expenses that are not covered under Christopher's insurance. The funds will be withdrawn on behalf of Rosa Simon through Pile of Smile - Wish fund for kids with cancer (501(c)3 organization) and the full amount is going to be available to the family asap.

Christoper and Rosa are now at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for a radiation treatment. Thank you for all your support!!
Radiation day #2: Today he ate a little more breakfast, went to meet his RO doctor and nurse where they check on his incision and all was good, after that he went for his second radiation and did not sleep this time, He has what is called Music therapy where he got to play a guitar and learn new songs. Later he was called for his triage 61 Kg he lost 3, so I took him to eat his lunch but he ate just a bit and I'd make sure he drinks his protein shake. Later he ran to school where he had an History test and he got 84, which is not bad after missing a whole month of school. He also had his ENT consult and he got a new CT order to find out what is on his sinus that they never treat in DC when they found the tumor. On our way out we stop to pick up mail and this time the mail made him cry to see all the love receive from this friends/family Rs. We went back home to watch Dory the movie and later we went for a romantic dinner in the hospital cafeteria where we talked about all our friends we miss and his sister he wants to see. Back home he showered and I noticed his incisions are very irritated and apply a topical emulsion Sonafine on the incisions and all down his his back in the spine area to prevent any more irritations tomorrow, but not sure if it will get better, they do not do radiation if this the wounds are affected until it gets better. Now he sleeps thinking on get better as fast as he can so he can go back to see his love ones. Praise the Lord for music so we can rejoice with it, praise for this second day with no signs of nausea and today praise for Love that makes us feel the assurance of belong to each other. Please pray for his scars to be totally heal , pray for the radiation not to cause more irritation, pray for his appetite to be increase and please pray for our family to be reunited very soon. Love.
Radiation day #1 : He got up and change his clothes, no shower today as doctors suggested, got his breakfast and vitamin D pill. His first appointment was PT where he work up his leg muscles at the gym, he perform very well and did not look exhausted at all. After PT we went to receive his first Proton Beam Radiation, this session started at 9:30 am and lasted for 1 1/2 hour, he fell sleep during the treatment and walk out of the room just like he just got up of his bed and ready to continue with his day. He did not had any nausea or any other symptom beside a bit of pain in his incision which went away on his own with no need of pain killers. He went to meet his teen friends for a while and then we ate lunch together. We found out that the chefs in the hospital will take requests on personal meals preference if the patient has trouble eating which he has, so we went ahead and requested Peruvian arroz con pollo, one of his many favorite dishes, they will have a meeting to find out the recipe and try to get it ready in a couple of days. I hope this will be a good incentive for him to eat a bit more. After lunch he went for a round of pool table, his new favorite "Sport" and got bit up by two new friends, which made him happier to know about his new challenge. On our way back home we run into his friend S who seemed very down and tired and learned he is having low blood counts and was receiving blood transfusion again today. We went back to the hotel and got ready for a Valentine's day celebration, but all he wants was to rest so we went for a little time. Latter he got to talk to his sister and after they hang up he stayed up talking about her and her silliness for a long time and went to sleep on his regular clothes no PJs because that is how tired he was. Praise the Lord for a very successful first day of cancer treatment, he walk out with no side effects. Praise for the opportunity of work out time to improve our body and spirit. Praise for our meals that help us to keep up with our days. Praise for no nausea or irritation. Praise for friends who show us support in this difficult times, they know what is coming up next. Praise for HOPE in our hearts, we don't give up and keep trusting in you God. Praise for Christina's personality and voice that help us to go to sleep happy every night. We met lots of people during our ride all of them with interesting life stories. We got out on a place call Withe Station and find a shopping mall where we window shopped and then rode back to the hotel. This trip made him exhausted, ate a little dinner, watch some, talked to his sister and went to sleep. On Sunday he got ready for the day , went to get breakfast and went to church with a very nice couple who offered to take us while we stay here, the ride was quite long, about an hour long, once we got there they were already waiting for us with a very warm welcoming and gave us a tour inside their building. At the end of the service the elders got together to prayed for Christopher's full recovery. Later they took him for lunch and then took us back to the hotel where we rested for a few hours and then went to the hospital to pick up his medicine and his dinner in order to prepare for his first treatment on Monday. Just out of the cafeteria there was a Jenga game he wanted to play with me, so we start playing when this group of Latino stars showed up and took over from me, he had a lot of fan playing different games including Chess and to make this even more special one of the singers stayed longer to laid hands on him and prayed out for him before leaving. Went back home to eat his dinner and his medicine to prevent nausea and sleep right after. Praise the Lord for our daily adventures, for what they are now a testimony of your power. Oh boy what a day! He got up at 6 am to use the bathroom, ate breakfast and wait for his OT girl to come and work with him, today's session was about how to use the shower in a safety way, so I was kick out of the class, not willing to explain the situation he went through, until she call for me to reach his clothes. Right after that PT took him for a long distance walk with the help of his walker. came back to his room and rested a little bit before our departure to the children's National hospital to meet his oncologist to find out the results of his lumbar puncture and determinate what will be the treatment plan. Once there we met with Pastor and Boss who came to support and to make sure we were clear in on any decision taken. Lumbar puncture results....... NO CANCER CELLS IN HIS SPINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just on his brain, and the type of cancer cells he has in his brain are NOT THE WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we decide to take the treatment right the way though St, Jude CRH in Memphis TN. leaving DC on Thursday morning and continue physical therapy in the same place. Praise the Lord because he listens to our prayers, praise for new goals that keep us moving, praise for no maligned cells in my son's spine so he will need less radiation, praise for cancer that is treatable, praise for friends who support us in many ways, praise for all this medical team who work hard in my son's case, praise for the nurses who join me on prayers every night, praise for all this people who dedicate time of their life to lift my son in prayers, praise for the baby next door who as I am typing this post is finally crying out and loud because he can finally catch some air on his own!!!! Please continue to pray for us, for my son completely healing, for his heart not to be sad when he is going away from family and friends, for more blessing to the kids in this hospital, for my own strength and for my own obedience to take what is to come and accept God's willingness and not to impose my own, and pray for my little girl to remain calm and faithful. Love.

He woke up very tired and not too happy to be away from home, got a shower, brushed his teeth and sit on his chair all with the help of his walker. Got change with mom assistance. Ate pancakes, veggies omelet smoothies, bacon, turkey sausage and OJ for breakfast. PT girl worked him on his re-assessment and took him for a walk with the walker all the way to half way down the hall, that was very intense, came back to his chair, watched Smallville, played a video game on his cellphone....!!! and got his Pastor visit while he ate a burrito, half of a steak sandwich and a smoothie. He barely carried the conversation at this point, asked to be moved to his bed and took a two hours nap. Woke up well rested and cheerful, played cards with mom and OT while he stand in front of the table, shuffle the deck of cards, deal, and played a short game, walked for a bit and then was offer to try out a wheel chair, he immediately agree. went around the Neuro floor, and then had the perfect “escape” through the elevators where he greeted everyone around him, he was the most happy teen you ever seen. Visit the cafeteria, grab some ice cream, went down the lobby and set on a club sofa to enjoy his dessert while taking any chance to socialize with people around. Went back to his room and rest for a bit. He got chicken alfredo with broccoli, veggie omelet, mush potatoes and OJ for dinner. and got ready to watch Food network and sleep. Praise the Lord for not too happy moments in our life because we learn how to appreciate more the good ones, praise for family separation because we learn how much we love each other when we got home sick, praise for tiredness because we recognize we had work hard and made the most of our days, praise God for listening all our prayers because we can see the miracle of health. Please lets keep praying for more improvements, for patience, for this teen to feel the love through the distance, and for all of you to continue walk faithful with us in this long exhaustive and painful but satisfactory journey. Love.
He woke up with pain, got some tylenol and proceeded to his regular routine of walking with less of my help but holding a bit on a walker, he shadowed, used the potty ,showered, brushed his teeth, got change, walked all the way to his bed, ate a huge omelet, pancake and smoothies. Later on he walked to his chair and organized his box of Castles of Burgundy, set it up and played a whole year with me, OT girl show up so we stopped the game, they work on cognitive areas and went for a walk around the room. Rest on his bed for a little bit before lunch. Got up to use the restroom, went back to his chair ate Crispy ranch chicken, bake fries, mush potatoes, ice cream and smoothies. PT girl came right after his lunch exercise for a while and took him for a walk with the walker all the way out the hall where the team of doctors were waiting for him, came back to his bed and got into a long conversation with the team. Cancer researchers stopped by to interview us and he was able to catch up with every detail, they mentioned that his cancer cells may be related to his gens and he got upset to notice that some one else in his family may have it. His big concern is his baby sister, so he told them to please run the test to determinate if she was on risk, they agreed. He took a nap and ask me for a dinner date so we set on low lights, ate in front of each other and talked about Marvel super heroes for an hour. He was able to ate two beef lasagnas, mush potatoes, green beans, ice cream and smoothies. Brushed his teeth use the bathroom and went to bed. Praise the Lord for all the equipment he can use to learn to be more independent, praise for the medical stuff in this hospital, praise the Lord for this young man lovely heart and brain. We all keep praying for a full recovery, for a smooth transition to the physical rehabilitation hospital, for less tears and more laughter, for little Christina to stay strong and faithful, for a mom to stay awake when she is needed and for many more blessing you can add on our life. Love.
A group of us from his taekwondo family want to organize something for the family and don't know where to start. Do you know if/when someone will let us know what other needs are: help with travel, meals, gift cards, care baskets. Do you know what the family needs and who I should coordinate with?
May God's grace be with you young man. Prayers out to you, your family and may the Lord bless the mind and hands of your medical staff
Hi Suzanne, I think Allen Schisller will know the best what their needs are right now he sees them basically every day. I am checking with him now. Thank you so much for doing this!! Jan.
