Je suis Véronique Alain,
Il y a 6 ans, en février 2012, la maladie a frappé notre famille. À 29 ans, on m’a diagnostiqué une forme rare de cancer. Après 7 mois de chimiothérapie, je suis maintenant en rémission et j'ai réussi à vaincre la maladie. Durant la même année, mon père, Paul s’est battu contre un cancer de la gorge.
Finalement, après un an de répit, ma mère Lucie s’est fracturé l’épaule en tombant, suite à une perte de conscience. Pour nous, c'était le début d’une quête neurologique afin de trouver la cause réelle de son malaise.
En avril 2017, mon père est atteint d’un deuxième cancer et doit subir l’ablation de la prostate. Lors de son séjour à l’hôpital, il fait un grave délirium. Quelques mois plus tard, on apprend qu’à 62 ans, il est atteint d’Alzheimer précoce.
Au même moment, ma mère se fait hospitaliser par l’équipe de neurologie, afin d’établir la cause de sa dégénérescence et aussi afin de comprendre la raison de sa perte de mobilité et des douleurs qui envahissent son corps.
Après plusieurs mois de recherche, le verdict tombe finalement. Elle est atteinte d’une maladie dégénérative rare appelée atrophie multi-systématisée. La maladie lui fait perdre progressivement toute mobilité. À seulement 64 ans, cette femme extraordinaire, qui a toujours pris soin de sa famille avec cœur est maintenant clouée au lit, dans un centre d'hébergement de soins de longue durée (CHSLD).
Lucie a toujours été une femme active qui aime socialiser avec les gens et faire des sorties.
Maintenant, elle dépend entièrement du service de transport adapté. Ce service n'est pas mauvais, mais il est malheureusement limité et mes parents ne peuvent même pas voyager ensembles. Nous souhaitons donc, mon frère Pierre-Paul et moi, amasser des fonds afin d’acheter un véhicule adapté (van), afin d'être libre d’effectuer des déplacements avec mes deux parents et ainsi de pouvoir profiter de chaque moment qu’il nous reste avec eux.
Si par malheur, notre mère nous quitte avant l’achat du véhicule, tous les fonds amassés seront versés à l’organisme « Tous pour un rêve » de la Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers du Québec (CTAQ), qui permet aux gens handicapés de réaliser leur rêve.
Si nous avons la chance d'amasser l'argent nécessaire pour acheter un véhicule, nous nous engageons ensuite à le donner à une personne ou un organisme à but non lucratif (OBNL) lorsque notre mère nous quittera.

6 years ago, in February 2012, sickness struck our family. At age 29, I got a diagnostic of a rare form of cancer. After 7 months of chemotherapy, I am now in remission and I succeeded in overcoming the disease. During the same year, my father, Paul fought against a throat cancer.
Finally, after one year of break, my mother Lucie fractured her shoulder while falling further to a loss of consciousness. For all of us, it was the beginning of a neurologic quest in order to find the real cause of her faintness.
In April 2017, my father is hit by a second cancer and must undergo the ablation of the prostate. During his stay at the hospital, he makes a serious delirium. A few months later, we discovered that at age 62, he suffers from a precocious form of Alzheimer.
At the same time, my mother is hospitalized by the neurology team in order to establish the cause of her degeneration and also to understand the reason for her mobility loss and the pain invading her body.
After several months of research, the verdict finally falls, she suffers from a rare degenerative disease called atrophies multi-systematized. The disease makes her gradually lose all mobility. At age 64 only, this extraordinary woman, who always took care of her family with heart is now nailed to a bed in a long-term health care center.
Lucie has always been an active woman who likes to socialize with people and go on outings.
Now, she entirely depends of the adapted transport service. This service is not bad, but unfortunately, it is limited and my parents cannot even travel together. Thus, my brother Pierre-Paul and I, wish to raise funds in order to buy an adapted vehicle (van) so that we can be free to transport my parents and to benefit from each moment that remains with them.
If by misfortune, our mother leaves us before the purchase of the vehicle, all raised money will be given to the “All for a dream” Organization from the Ambulance Technicians Cooperative from Quebec, which makes it possible for handicapped people to carry out their dream.
If we have the chance to raise the needed money to buy a vehicle, we then undertake to give it to a person or a non-profit organization when our mother will leave us.
