Pop-Up Gym :spinal cord recovery
After spending over a year in Denver Colorado where I lived at the time, I came back to the UK and realized that there was a huge disparity between the rehabilitation facilities/opportunities in the United States in comparison to the north of England. I met with fellow quadriplegics, hoping to get some insight into how they exercise to stay fit and what they did for rehabilitation. Again and again I heard that as soon as people with spinal cord injuries are discharged from the hospital they are essentially on their own when it comes to physical therapy. Giving up on recovery and fitness is not an option for me and I don't think other people with spinal cord injuries should suffer because of a lack of facilities. Pop-Up Gym is a traveling rehabilitation and fitness gym for people with spinal cord injuries. We show up in town, use a local prearranged facility and unload our specialist equipment. People with spinal cord injuries from all over the north of England will have an opportunity to use the Gym for a nominal fee of £100 Per year. The gym is completely non-profit and relies solely on donations and volunteers to keep it running.
We need £50,000 to get the project up and running. This will cover the costs of expensive spinal cord injury specific exercise equipment such as functional electrical stimulation bikes. Money will also help us with general running costs and purchasing our specialist vehicle.
The Colorado Re-Run Project
Is a project set up to fundraise for runners who need help. The first project is to help me with my dream of getting this gym up and running. If you are interested in doing an event to help raise money for Pop-Up Gym please visit:
Thank you in advance for your support!
We began sessions with clients on the 15th of January 2018 and have had extremely positive feedback so far. We are set up as a charity so still heavily rely upon donations to stay afloat.
