A DEDICATED 360° VIDEO PLATFORM

POP MOVIE is dedicated exclusively to 360° video. We believe that 360° video is an extraordinary medium with the capacity to fundamentally change the way we think about art, education, cinema, entertainment and just about everything else . For this reason, we decided to create a free platform dedicated entirely to those who love it as much as we do. 


TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS
POP MOVIE is built on web standards, such as HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and WebGL. 


Web standards are important as they ensure the greatest stability  and consistency across browsers, operating systems and devices.

LANGUAGE

POP MOVIE currently supports a number of languages including english, italiano, français, deutsche, español, русский, हिंदी, 한국어, 中文 and 日本語. More languages will be supported in time. 




VIEWING 360° VIDEO IN POP MOVIE

POP MOVIE provides a diverse collection of 360° video experiences from around the world. The library is free and anyone can contribute their own 360° content at any time. To view the library, just visit POP MOVIE   in any web browser.   


To browse the library, just drag horizontally, use the navigation icons or use your keyboard arrow keys. You can also search for content using the SEARCH bar.


To enter a 360° video, tap it once. (To exit, tap twice)  To look around inside a 360° video, drag in any direction.


To zoom, use a pinch gesture or your mouse's track wheel.


To get information about a 360° video, tap the INFO (+) button.
 

To share the video, tap the share icon.


POP MOVIE also provides a number of viewing options, such as SPEED, ZOOM and LOOP controls. 



Some options, such as VR STEREO MODE, are only available on mobile devices.

The POP GLOBE is a CESIUM  powered 3D globe showing all 360° videos currently hosted on POP MOVIE. 


 
So, those are the basics of viewing 360° videos on POP MOVIE. Now, let's take a look at how you can add your own content!

ADDING 360° VIDEO TO POP MOVIE

POP MOVIE lets anyone add their 360° video content for free. To get started, just visit POP MOVIE   and log in using your preferred social media account.  



The first time you log in, a POP CHANNEL will be automatically created for you. Tap CHANNEL to begin uploading content.


Select one or more 360° video files* from your system or drag and drop your 360° files directly to the screen. 
* Files must currently be 100mb or less.


Tap the INFO (+) button to give your 360° video a name and description.   



Now go back and tap the LOCATION icon and enter a location for your video. 


This may be a street address, city name or latitude, longitude coordinates.  


Now exit and tap the UPLOAD button to submit your video to POP MOVIE. 


After your video has uploaded, tap the CHANNEL button to view your POP CHANNEL.


Next, tap the CHANNEL BAR to edit your EMAIL, WEBSITE and CHANNEL NAME (Optional)  


To share your POP CHANNEL, tap the SHARE icon.

KEEPING IT FREE

Above all, we want to keep POP MOVIE free. No ads. No fees. Just free. For that to happen, we need only to cover the basic costs for preparing the platform for the long run. These costs include dedicated web servers, disk space, hosting costs, domain maintenance, security costs, database management and software engineering. Covering these costs will help us keep the platform free. 

STREAMING

POP MOVIE currently delivers 360° video files in a gradual, 'progressive' manner. It works but it isn't an ideal solution. It can sometimes be slow, often resulting in long wait times, particularly on mobile devices or slow internet connetions. To solve this problem we need to purchase dedicated streaming servers. Streaming servers improve the viewing experience by delivering 360° video that is optimized for each viewer's hardware and bandwidth configurations. This will ensure that your content reaches the widest audience possible. 

THE POP TOOLKIT
(This is where things get really, really interesting!)

360° video is certainly awesome but we think it's just the beginning. We want to empower artists and innovators with new tools to take 360° video into places never seen before. In early 2017 we developed a prototype system for creating highly advanced interactive 360° video projects. We called it the POP TOOLKIT and it included features such as:

• Multilingual voice recognition
• Multilingual spoken messages 
• Hand-gesture recognition 
• Scene linking (hotspots)
• 3D text
• 3D shapes
• 2D overlays
• 3D model integration
• 3D image and video elements
• Directional audio
• Keyframing engine

The next step is to begin migrating the TOOLKIT features into POP MOVIE. This, however, is going to require a good deal of software engineering and time. When it's ready, however, it will empower you with the ability to realize your creative vision, whatever it may be.
