Hello! Our names are Devin, Cathrine and Meg, we are currently studying at Camosun College in Victoria BC. For our Human Geography class and Sociology class we have decided to dive into a service project.
For our service project we are concentrating on female education in Sub Saharan Africa, we are partnering with a local organization in Victoria called PODA (Partnerships for Opportunity Development Association). Poda is working on projects primarily in Uganda including, education, beekeeping, farming and health .https://www.poda.ca/
Education is a key element in eliminating poverty, reducing child marriage, pregnancy and violence against females. When educating a girl they are more likely to escape all points listed above, deciding when to have children, educating her future children and becoming more self sufficient.
Sending a girl to school in Uganda is $450, for us in a western country, $450 is less than monthly rent, less than monthly food costs, less than a cell phone, a small paycheck for many of us. PODA sends girls to boarding schools instead of public institutions, guaranteeing the girls will stay in school. We have teamed up with some amazing companies and people in Victoria to bring you an opportunity to win some rad prizes and donate to help a girl overseas.

We are selling tickets at Nourish (come eat some yummy food and buy tickets!) 3 for $5 or donate on the go fund me and for every $5 we will put 3 tickets into the draw! (make sure to include name and phone # in donation)
March 8th is international women's day when we will be drawing three winners! Don't worry if you don't live in Victoria and cant make it to some of these awesome places, one of these prize packs will be made up out of things we can ship you! Such as Patagonia swag and art!... or you can come visit this gorgeous island.
As a final kick off for our event we have teamed up with Patagonia to hold a documentary evening showing the film 'Girl Rising'. This film follows nine females around the world as they try to attend school and educate themselves. This event will be happening on March 8th, Internation womens day at Patagonia in Victoria, come out for an evening of empowement and beer by donation!
