Saving Hope

Donation protected
This morning on my way home from dropping off my son at school, I spotted a pitbull laying in the meridian in the middle of Ball Rd in Anaheim.  This dog had been ran over and the driver who hit her did not stop. I called the PD and they stated they couldn't do anything to help. I moved my car and began setting it up so I could transport her to the nearest Vet and another person pulled over to help. Mike advised me where the closest Vet was and  led me there as I followed in my car since this was an urgent situation. We arrived and they would not open the door, stating they were closed. We went to a second Vet and they took her inside on a stretcher but would not treat her unless they received $600 upfront.  Mike was still with me and told me he knew a compassionate Vet in Huntington Beach who would actually help. We paid for a pain med injection and bolted to H.B. desperate for another good Samaritan to help us with this dog. We get to the Vet's office and they take her in and begin an IV, without handing us an invoice first (Thank GOD!). This dog did not have a chip or a tag on her collar. At this point, we are all she has but she is not without hope, which is why when they asked us her name, we said "Hope". We hope that there are others out there who care about animals as much as we do, we hope that she re-cooperates and can enjoy a beautiful life... far from cars. The injuries we have confirmation as of now are a broken jaw, the injury to her head which also caused a concussion, and an injury to her vertebrae. She is alert, and aware of her surroundings and we have confirmed she is not paralyzed, nor does she have broken bones aside from the jaw. She is not without hope! With the proper care, I have faith that she will re- cooperate. She is currently at Huntington Pet Vet and is under close observation while she rests, in hopes of being stable enough for the jaw surgery and extensive x-rays within the next couple of days. As a huge dog lover, I am not capable of turning away from her. I am currently asking for financial assistance to help Hope receive the medical care she needs. There is no contribution too small, and with each donation- my hope in humanity becomes restored. Whoever the jerk was who left her there cannot overcome the good there is in this world. I have told my 5 year old son that we have a new pet which we will love and we cannot wait to embrace her once she is well enough. She is truly a beautiful dog, who was even trying to wag her tail as I told her she was a good girl in the car. In an effort to really gain some momentum with saving Hope, I am offering to make 1 dozen tamales for each person who donates over $50. It's not instant tamales, I will be making a list and obtaining requests then dropping these off on Dec. 15th. I don't have funds to do this alone, but I have willpower, love and tamale making skills and with that- anything is possible. Please help if you are able, share this or if you are so inclined, pray for this sweet baby girl. Thank you.

UPDATE: The owner has come forth. He has created his own gofundme and Hope is now under his name at the vet- "Peaches Hernandez". Considering his age and circumstances he disclosed about himself and his personal life, I am not confident he can provide for her the way she needs. I will not go into detail further due to the backlash/slander that has begun. I have done all I possibly could to help this puppy, and despite anyone's opinion of me- that is still all that I want. I have no mal intentions other than to ensure Hope does not have a third near death experience. I offered to cover her vet bills completely and even provide monetary incentive to the original owner to relinquish Hope. It does not seem that is a likely conclusion, however. With that being said, I do not feel as though I can support the owner in this. He did not take responsibility for Hope not having a tag, chip or for her getting out. As such, I will not be providing the full donation to Hope's bill. I feel that he needs to assume some level of responsibility and show he can do what is needed.  I know some of you have specified that you are still wanting to support the vet bill for Hope, and as such- I will be providing a partial donation. The rest of the donations will be going to the to Huntington Pet Vet, who saved Hope's life on good faith and currently has 3-4 more animals in similar situations without adequate financial means. They do great work and deserve to have our support. If any donor feels they would like their money back, gofundme has agreed to provide refunds. I will not be able to disburse any donations until this refund process in closed and completed. Thank you all for your support and willingness to rally for this puppy who needed us. Regardless of all, I have still been touched by Hope and this experience and pray that what is right prevails.
