Hello everyone. My name is Michael and this is Janet Safley's gofundme page. I started this page because someone I care about very much is in great need. Janet is not your average person. She has spent almost her entire adult life helping other people as a Crisis Intervention Counselor. What she enjoyed most was working with at-risk kids that desperately needed her help. I met Janet about 14 years ago on a gaming website. I was just an annoying kid at the time but Janet didn’t mind. She put up with my over-enthusiasm (to put it lightly!) and helped guide me so that I could also become a vetted and respected member of the same online community. Why does this matter so much? Janet was not able to have children of her own and her mother died a few years ago unexpectedly. She is not married and doesn't have any family to help her. She doesn't have anyone left except her online family.
Janet is all alone. Today she will not have any money to pay her rent, to buy the medicine she desperately needs, to buy food, or to put gas in her car to get to her doctor appointments. When Janet was in her 30s she was diagnosed with a rare disease called Systemic Sclerosis. Then when she was 41, she was diagnosed with an extremely rare antibody deficiency that prevents her body from making the vital antibodies she needs to fight infections. Many times the doctors didn't think she would survive, yet she has just kept fighting through it all. Well, it's been many years now that Janet has been fighting and she needs our help so that she can keep fighting. There is a treatment available for her but she needs to get to Stanford University Medical Center, where the doctors there are familiar with her disease and condition. What she has is so rare: only about 4 people in the country have it. And she is getting only worse: losing her ability to eat, her vision failing, and suffering from severe anaemia. But this treatment could change everything for her.
I ask you to please help in any way that you can. I appreciate any help and support that you have to offer. Janet isn't strong enough to get on the computer as often as she used to, limited to a couple hours at a time per day, but I'll be reading your comments and well wishes to her when she is weak.
