The Mantua Twp Police K9 unit is solely funded through donations. No tax money is used for this unit. We have recently added our third canine and first ever explosives detection dog. With the ever presence of gun violence in not only our schools but also our work force, this dog will be able to detect small amounts of gun powder and alert his partner to its location.
Funding a canine officer can be very costly. On average, this is the approximate annual costs for a canine:
$4500 Single purpose canine training
$4000 Vehicle outfitting for canine partner
$1000 Food
$ 750 Veterinary costs
$ 300 Canine equipment
$ 200 Preventative medication
$ 200 Monthly Training
That's over $10,000 per year for one dog! And we have three!
Any donation that is received is always greatly appreciated. This is our first attempt at doing this. Every donor will be invited to a private K9 party to include a meet and greet with our K9 partners as well as a demonstration of their abilities.
