If you’ve ever been in a virtual social world, then you probably are aware of how wonderfully fun and immersive it is. You can make friends from all over the world, you can attend many types of social events, you can create content, start organizations in world, dance and even fly!

Virtual social worlds can break down all sorts of barriers that we experience in real life! If you are in a wheelchair, you can be a dancer, if you are shy you can meet new friends easily. Virtual worlds offer friendships and social connections for people who may feel isolated in real life.

Your avatar can walk around as a dragon, a unicorn or a fairy. You don’t have to be a millionaire to own yachts, space ships or castles!

You can dress up in gorgeous clothes and avatars, and even role play as a member of a mythological society like I do as an elf in Tolkien’s middle earth. You can role play as member of a historical society transporting yourself back to ancient Egypt or any time period. You create it, and you can virtually live in it! The possibilities are endless!

Educators use the virtual worlds to teach and even to offer virtual graduation ceremonies. Other virtual social worlds  charge to rent space to create your dream home, and it costs money for everything you need there.

Open Sim Grid, on the other hand, is completely free. The developers that created Open Sim Grid wanted to ensure that those who could not afford the land fees and materials costs of the other grids had a place where they could log in and have all those things. There have been many over the years who have tried to insist that Open Sim Grid become a economy based grid (one that charges you for everything) but the developers have stood fast, refusing to charge.

Because of their basic generosity, the grid relies on donations to keep the servers running, the grid operating system safe, and up to speed. They donate their time to admin the grid for free. But, the servers are aging and they need to be replaced with newer hardware. We don’t even have enough income for an emergency fund in the event of a hardware failure.

That is why we are asking for your donation today, without the kind support of people like you, the grid cannot go on. We are just barely solvent at this time. If we were to have a hardware failure, our world would crash until we could find the resources to repair the damage.

Please consider donating to Open Sim Grid, for the sake of those who’s life is made brighter by this free virtual world, but who cannot afford the other grids. A one time donation would be greatly appreciated, but a monthly donation of just five or ten dollars would ensure a dependable income to cover the hardware expenses. Thank you so much!

We  invite you to get a free account and avatar  and join us in Open Sim Grid! See you there!
