On June 26 I went to the emergency room because I couldn't breathe. I spent the next 2 weeks there (including 3 days in ICU) for respiratory failure, trying to get my breathing under control and figuring a plan of therapies and medications that worked for me. Finally, on July 10, I was released to go home, and with me I took 8 new prescriptions and an order for 24/7 oxygen.
Right now I'm using oxygen tanks, which I'm very grateful for. But each tank only provides me with about 4 hours of air and while helpful, severely hinders my quality of life. I am very limited in the amount of time I have outside my home, doing the things that I love like spending weekends with my grandbabies and my involvement with the Appalachian Renaissance Faire, where I'm very involved with activities like performing, giving classes and teaching children about our Appalachian heritage.
A portable oxygen concentrator supplies about 10 hours of oxygen, and uses rechargeable batteries. This would improve my ability to continue doing the things I love, greatly. However the average price for one is approximately $2400 and another $350 for an extra battery. Unfortunately, not only has my condition been debilitating to my quality of life, but the financial burden has been pretty great as well, since we don't have insurance or any kind of medical assistance. So without help, there is no way I can afford the costs.
I'm not one to ask for help, I like being someone who helps others, not the other way around. But I'm not ready to be a shut in either, so humbly, I am asking for your help. I understand we all have bills to pay and whatnot. Any amount you could spare is one step closer and a little less stress about the whole thing too. If you can't donate anything, that's ok, I'd just like to ask if you could share this with the people you know, for me.
