Please Help Don In His Time of Need

Donation protected
With a heavy heart, I write this about one of the most kind people I have ever met. Don Manley.

Don, a devoted writer, volunteer, and lover of our beautiful community, was recently diagnosed with COPD. On the heels of that came the diagnosis of cancer in his right vocal cord. He is currently undergoing radiation treatment, five days a week, for seven weeks. On the 24th of July, Don was hospitalized, and received another diagnosis. He had come down with a pneumonia, and was to stay in the hospital for a week. Unfortunately, even with insurance, this recent hospital stay, the radiation treatments and other out-of-pocket costs associated with this (tests, prescriptions, and the like) are outpacing his small income from freelancing and the small amount he gets from SSI.

Don is so beloved for all the effort and passion he puts into his work, and our community.  He frequently is championing for causes important to this community; For veterans events, and our local farmers market. He has been a part of Marco Island for about 10 years, and loves every part of it.

In his own words, "I do my level best to present readers with everything that's happening in the community, whether it be hard news or features that highlight residents and businesses. I believe it's important to recognize that there is good news everywhere and that it deserves to be highlighted, along with the hot-button issues. I've also told anyone and everyone what a great place Marco is because I've encountered so many truly wonderful people on this island. I feel lucky to live here for that very reason."

From my point of view, Don is needed and loved by every single one of us, whether you know it or not. The stories you read, that fascinate you, and take you through a journey of emotions, that provide you with a whole new perspective, have a face behind them. He is that face.
At a time like this, I couldn't imagine just sending Don a 'Get Well Soon' card, or some flowers. In my eyes, he needs us more that ever, just as we've needed him for his inspirational stories. He is such a kind, selfless soul, and is so deserving of our help.

Your donations will not just help with medical expenses, but will also help with other various bills. Because the affects treatment has had on him, it has made it extremely hard for him to work.

Any small donation, will go a long way. Please keep Don and his loved ones in your prayers.

Thank you.
