I'm doing this because a greater part of the community asked me to do it. Y'all want me to look at (and share my opinions on) the latest gadgets, right? Let's try a new approach.
If you want to help, awesome. If you don't, awesome.
So far, you have fully funded:
* Google Pixel 2 XL
Right now, the current device drive is for:
* iPhone X
I've calculated all taxes & fees into the current goal - nothing more. Funds raised here are specifically earmarked for the products in question (or roll over into future product reviews if we don't hit the mark before donations trail off).
Ongoing support is also appreciated from Twitch subs, patrons, and Super Chatters on YouTube - but this is being done with a specific goal in mind.
Please understand that I'm lucky to get a review unit for something that you might find interesting in the first place, but that opportunity too often comes with disappointing strings attached. I definitely can't count on this, and I'm also at the mercy of someone else's plans.
I also can't count on attention to offset costs for any new gadget video that may or may not be interesting to you (the intendend audience). There's too much of a risk involved on my part - and I'm not interested in collecting devices.
If this campaign is successful, I'll consider launching another one for any range of products that capture the community's attention - but I don't yet know how well GoFundMe will work for our situation.
I will hold onto the devices indefinitely, and if they are sold then those funds will be rolled into the next device purchase.
Please don't ask if I will give the device away to one of the project backers when I'm done with it (because all that will do is turn this idea into a giveaway - and people will get very mad if they don’t "win").
If you do decide to support this idea, what I believe we can do is show your name in at least one of the videos made for any one of these products (or all of them). This is the best bonus I could provide. I'll probably zoom in on the screen where I'd normally show our Discord chat room. We'll figure out a way to do it.
This is about creating the content you want me to create - and helping me create it for you in the first place.
We're going to try to do something similar for the iPhone X. That will be kicked off on http://youtube.com/ChrisPirillo/live tomorrow (hopefully, with goals met through Super Chats during the broadcast).
The "iPhone X: You Crowdfund It for My Review" video will be live for between 30 minutes to 4 hours - determined largely by the flow of Super Chat funds that come in. Once things start slowing down to an intermittent pace (and it is obvious that interest has peaked), the live video will end and it will likely be determined whether or not we met the goal.
$1,267 (iPhone X plus Tax) + $381 (30% Google Fees) = $1,648 (to Raise with Super Chats on YouTube)
This "Pixelpalooza" can be used for those who can't make the live stream, though the current total goal will decrease as Super Chat funds are accounted for after the live stream and it is not expected that much will come in apart from that which happens in Super Chat.
Cut off for this idea is a week after the live video, with a bulk of the possibility contingent on Super Chats (based upon prior experience). If crowdfunding revenue does not meet the baseline $1,648 during the live broadcast, all participants will still be properly credited in a TBD future video and those donations could be earmarked for future device review possibilities and/or seen as a token of appreciation.
The iPhone X can and will only be purchased AFTER ALL FUNDS HAVE CLEARED. I do not know how long it will take for Google to guarantee the Super Chats as valid (it could take up to TWO MONTHS), but turnaround for GoFundMe is typically more expedient.
Thanks again for your faith! :D
Your support, as always, is appreciated.
We have now done several pixel-related videos with your names in the credits - and we continue to do more.
Tonight's video with Diana was a blast! We're not quite all the way there with the Pixel 2 support, but you've pretty much funded the Pixel 2 XL after fees have been calculated out.
