On New Year's Eve a fire completely destroyed my husbands storage unit within Shurgard in Croydon. The fire was reported at 7.45pm and continued to rage well into New Year's Day. Over 120 firefighters and 20 fire engines were present at the scene and could only contain the fire which had probably started earlier that day. Despite their most valiant efforts the fire decimated the entire building which has subsequently been demolished.
My husband (Giacomo Malvermi) runs a small company in Addiscombe, Croydon since 2013 called Pinball Creative www.pinballcreative.co.uk He fully restores, refurbishes and sells classic vintage pinball machines from an era long gone by. He has built a good reputation in the market with over 55 customers.
Amongst other things Giacomo was storing 14 unrestored vintage electro-mechanical pinball machines from the 50's, 60's and 70's which were acquired over a period of ten years and are very difficult to replace . There were also three fully restored pinball machines which were awaiting delivery to customers, and although the customers have been very understanding this has hit the hardest. Apart from the pinball machines he had been collecting, there were also 50 pinball backglasses in both new and old condition which were truly irreplaceable. He also lost an entire collection of Scalextric slot cars, Hornby model locos and rolling stock as well as one vintage Fussball table which was awaiting restoration. As luck would have it both the Scalextric cars and Hornby models were only in that unit as he had been clearing out our garden shed and they had been in there for only a matter of days.
The direct effect of this tragedy is that his business has a 50/50 chance of continuing. HE URGENTLY NEEDS MONEY TO KEEP GOING.
