Layla is 6 year old little girl. Who lives in Coolock in Dublin . Layla is a twin and was born at 30 weeks .Layla was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she 18months old.
Cerebral palsy is damage to the brain. This causes tightness in her muscles which has deteriorated massively in the last two years.
Due to spasticity caused by cerebral palsy Layla is now more wheelchair dependant and in continuous pain .
After numerous failed Botox injections, serial casting, physio and splints our options are almost exhausted .
Layla has recently been accepted for a life changing operation known as SDR (Spinal Dorsal Rhizotomy ) in Leeds General Infirmary, UK .
SDR is spinal surgery in which they test every nerve in the spinal chord , the abnormal nerves (the nerves that have the most spasticity) will be cut . This will hopefully reduce spasticity and pain for Layla.
We will spend 3 weeks in Leeds and then fly home for immediate orthopedic surgery in temple street to help correct some of the damage cerebral palsy has caused .
Aftercare is in incredibly important for the operation to be a success this involves intense physio , massage and personal training daily for at least two years ,most of which is unfunded and a huge expense .
Layla also needs equipment for at home to be able to do exercises.
We are trying to raise funds for the trip and aftercare that Layla so desperately needs .
Layla's biggest wish is not to be in pain or have to use her wheelchair anymore . Layla's dream is to be a ballerina .This surgery is our last option.
