this is …. our PHOENIX

.... Peter J Agalos's Son, Phoenix Agalos… is fighting for his life.  https://youtu.be/M5W1xEd4Hgw

We have been blessed with this beautiful little boy in our lives … and despite some challenges, he is still happy and shows strength in his journey.

Phoenix has a spirit that gives, a smile that cheers, and a love that fills the hearts of all those he meets.

My goal right now is to help him have as many happy days and love him and be there for him while he can!

When Phoenix was born in August 2010, we were hit with some unknowns. He was born with

Poland Syndrome and a Metabolic Disorder. As a Dad… I was scared for him… worried that he would be bullied or have difficulty fitting in. He has grown and adjusts to everything he comes up against.

He has lived with gusto and has never seemed to let anything stop him from living happy.

May 2017…he was a happy, sweet, kind, and loving six year old. He was hit with a fierce influenza. It got the whole family. We all recovered, but he continued to relapse over the next few weeks with multiple trips to the doctor and hospital. We felt something was very wrong. We made another trip to the Emergency Room on

June 02, 2017, and our hearts were devastated when Phoenix was diagnosed with a Brain Tumor.

I often wonder if the influenza was powerful enough to compromise his immunity… that lowered his defenses.

He and I were flown to Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery.

The doctors told us that our persistence to find why he continued to have flu like symptoms… saved his life.

We are still working to save his life.

Phoenix had three surgeries, and within a couple weeks …he became mute and ambulatory.

He could not speak or move on his own.

Weeks of him staring back had been heartbreaking. Then there was a day when we were spoon feeding and helping him regain some independence… when he looked me straight in the eyes.

It was that day I saw my boy in there once again.  He later told me he could understand and listen to all around him, but his words would not come out of his mouth to answer us. This was a six year old, WOW!

After a few months of hard work in a wheel chair, he slowly regained walking, talking, and eating on his own.

His first word back from being mute was, “Good!”

We laid on the floor mats at the Rehab Facility with this Lego loving & self proclaimed builder as he recovered.

He began sorting the pieces with us. He built his way back to wellness with therapy and also using those blocks to count and sort the colors. He was able to use the directions and pick the pieces. He was back!

He then received 30 radiation treatments to his head and spine. In hind sight, maybe it would have been better to have the chemotherapy and decide on the radiation later. We tried to get him in to Proton Therapy at St Jude, but he was told to stay at Stanford for regular radiation. He then had chemotherapy for eight months.

We hoped and prayed for wellness, but have found ourselves almost two years later dealing with a recurrence. He is now having more and different chemotherapy treatments to fight the cancer.

Phoenix seemed to be responding in a Clinical Trial but was dropped because of the rules of the Clinical Trial,

This felt like a death sentence.

Phoenix was left defenseless and without cancer fighting drugs for what felt like forever.

We were desperate to keep fighting the battle to save his life and to give him a chance.

His doctors and Pharmacists at LPCH reached out to the drug company to get him the same drug he was on in the trial. They got the medicine and he is now receiving the chemotherapy once again.

We are not ready to give up! We hope and continue to search for options to help Phoenix.

Maybe through this journey we can find something that can help him.

If we have to go to another state or another country… we will do what we can or have to.

We are doing everything we can to fight this fight against cancer.

Please help us pray and think positive thoughts for Phoenix!

He is now 8½ years old. We want to fight as far and wide as we can!

We want to give him time and the opportunity to beat this cancer…to have a great quality of life…

…… and tons of fun while he is here and fighting the fight!

I love my Son… he is the most amazing and best Blessing in my Life.

I thank you for your SUPPORT, HELP, PRAYERS and GOOD THOUGHTS!
