5/5/17 - A day that most will remember as Cinco de Mayo.
For me, it will be remembered as the day that I continue my life again, cancer free!
There were TONS of emotions that ran through my mind that anxious Friday morning 5/5/17.
It was long 10 minute wait to be called by the plebotomist, followed by the normal blood draw. Then another 15 minute wait for the nurse to check my vitals.
The waiting continues. Another long 5 minutes passes. I hear a knock and the Doctor enters the room. He is holding a piece of paper in his left hand with his typical “How’s it going?” greeting and firm handshake with his right hand. As I lock my focus into the sheet of paper, no sooner than 5 seconds, he says “There are NO signs of Lymphoma!”
There was brief moment of relief that lasted about 5 seconds which was immediately followed by an outpouring of tears. So much emotion poured out for the next 5 minutes. The burden has been lifted!
I thought about the journey. What it meant for my family, my job, and for me. The hard fight I put up for the last 6 months and that feeling of triumphant victory. More tears were shed than day of the diagnosis, 6 months ago.
I overcame adversity and that feeling was great!
I wanted to take this opportunity to share this news with all of you! I want to THANK each and every one of you for all of your support, prayers, well wishes, text messages, phone calls, and emails.
I was NOT fighting this fight alone.
I will have some subsequent tests done as my blood counts are still low. I still have a high risk of infection. This is and has been typical throughout the treatment. Doc says this is a byproduct of chemo and should improve over the next few weeks with antibiotics.
