CANCER. Something you don't think about, right?? Until it happens to you-or someone you love. Believe me, it will change your world. The emotions run wild---why me??? Your daily chores will now be effected. Your thoughts, moods, everything will change.
It was almost three years ago, while working in a warehouse, that I felt considerable pain in my lower back and into my legs. At this time we had no clue what was happening. After many trips to a physical therapist and a couple more to my doctor, we knew something was wrong. Early January 2014, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. YIKES!!! Why me!!?? How can this be happening?? Your emotions do run wild!! Mood swings galore!! Finally it comes to a realization. I have cancer.
The first part is the hardest. Many trips to the Roger Maris Cancer Center to come. But there you find out your not alone. Over 100 people pass through those doors everyday. An incredible huge amount. You feel relieved and in such good care!! We all have one goal in mind-to give it all we have-fight hard-and we can beat this horrible stuff !! We all have excellent support behind us to help . We are now able to look towards the future !!
Have my goals changed in life ?? You bet!! Things are now moving at a much slower pace . My daily routine has changed, I now get up every morning and head to the gym. Something I had never thought of before. I now realize keep myself active is a big part of the recovery process. Even my FitBit keeps me motivated!! My doctor now says I am looking good!! So do many of my friends!!
But yet another twist happens to come my way. After not being employed for all this time, how do you get your feet on the ground?? Will any employer offer me a job after such a long time?? What type of work am I able to do?? Well, I thought between myself, and my parents, we would be fine financially. I have since found out that this is not the case. I am finding myself with many financial hardships.Plus, I still may be a ways off from obtaining employment again. Fighting cancer plus employment seems like a huge task!!!
I have tried many organizations including Sanford Medical Center financial services, American cancer society, Dakota medical foundation, Lutheran social services, etc. all to no avail. I never thought this would be so hard!!?? I guess it is!!
Here is where I am asking for your help. I don't expect "Go Fund Me" to eliminate all of my responsibilities, but any help would be greatly appreciated .
