Hi everyone,

I am a teacher in Texas and I have a student that is in need of new hearing aids and an FM system. Her current hearing aids are very old and some of the parts needed to connect it to an FM system are not available for purchase through any manufacturers. Currently, our school can purchase these for her, however because of IDEA funding the hearing aids would technically belong to the school. This means the student would not be able to bring them home with her. I would love for her to be able to have her own hearing aids that she could take home.

We have been blessed to have had a micophone clip system that was donated by ReSound but because her hearing aids are an older vesion, they are not compatible.  The new ReSound hearing aids that I would like to purchase for her cost about $3,000 and they are able to hook up to an ipad or iphone so she can change the audio levels for different environmental settings. This means when she goes from a carpeted classroom to a tiled classroom she can change the settings to be able to hear instruction better in that specific environment. Or if she wanted to have a conversation with her mom when she eats at a restaurant, she doesn't necessarily have to hear the family at the table next to them chewing on their food. 

We have already run into so many complications with getting her a new FM system this year that we really need something as soon as possible. Even with current hearing aids and accommodations she is really struggling some of her classes. It broke my heart today when the audiologist came to our school to fit her FM system and hearing aids and we had to tell her that the parts we ordered were not going to work. I have not yet explained to her that we're not sure if we can get the parts that she needs. Hopefully, with your help I won't need to! For other hearing individuals out there like myself, we just don't know what these kids go through to have to keep up with their peers in the general education classroom. They have to work ten times harder than the average student to keep up with the information. As an educator it is so hard because I don't think that this is the right setting for our HH students, but we have to do what is best for them with the situation given.  Please consider donating and thank you so much for your support!!!!
