Peyton Longo is a sports loving 15 yr old high school sophomore from Cheektowaga, New York. He is a super fan of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bisons, UB Bulls, Toronto Blue Jays and LA Dodgers. Peyton is the scorekeeper for his high school Varsity baseball team, the Maryvale Flyers. He is consistently on the Honor Roll , excels academically, and has won many scholastic awards throughout his middle and high school career. Recently , Peyton has been drafted to the UB Bulls Football team, which he is thrilled about, through Team Impact. Peyton is a positive, persistent and intelligent young man who lets nothing stop him from achieving his goals.
Peyton was diagnosed with Bethlem Myopathy, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, in 2010. This disease is characterized by progressive muscle weakness and joint stiffness (contractures)in the fingers, wrists, elbows or ankles.
Last year, as a result of a large growth spurt, muscles in Peyton's legs became unable to support his body weight. As he is unable to walk, he now has to use a wheelchair as his way to get around. Because Peyton's Muscular Dystrophy is a form that does not impair him cognitively, he is ineligible for Medicaid. He is in need of properly fitted wheelchair (The 4.5 mph iLevel Quantum Edge 3), which would make him more independent which is what we strive for and give him the ability to reach high levels with ease and comfort, as well as, have a eye to eye conversation with people. His house also needs the proper extras to help him, such as a properly fitted wheelchair ramp for entrance into his home, and other home modifications that will make him successful to maneuver around his personal space, things we may take for granted in everyday life.
Recently, 26 Shirts Buffalo created a T Shirt fundraiser for Peyton. $8 dollars of every shirt will be donated to Peyton. This awesome Limited Edition "I still call it the Ralph" T-Shirt was designed in his honor. It will be on sale till November 4th. Please consider buying a shirt in support of our Superfan Peyton.
