Support Schwarz Family Expenses
Stefan and his wife Karen are parents taking care of their adult children Peter(24) and Philip(25) in Coral Springs, FL.
Peter and Philip were diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at the tender age of 5. At the time, Karen left her role as a nurse to care for their sons with the help of her husband.
Unfortunately, just a few short months ago Peter's lung collapsed, and the need arose for him to recieve treatment in the ICU of a local hospital.
Stefan and Karen are so loving in their care for their boys. They take turns making sure that their sons have the attention they need. The challenge with one in the hospital and another at home means that both parents need to provide as much care as possible.
The Schwarz home is one filled with a lot of love, and this turn of events places a lot of pressure and stress on the entire family. There are a number of goals we would like to meet:
-roof repair for the Schwarz home; theirs cracked after the long drought
-mold needs to be eliminated from the house as it creates a toxic environment for the whole family
-Peter needs better medical equipment in the form of an automated mattress and a wheelchair that is not painful
-private medical attention in the form of a home health aide in order for Stefan to remain working
Let's put our resources together to alleviate the financial responsibilities as much as possible.
Dear Friends and Family,
It has been over a year since the hospitalization of our sons. Without your love, your prayers and your support, we would have been unable to get to this point.
Initially our friend Maya had set this page up for Peter but then we also needed support for his brother Philipp. While Peter was hospitalized, it took a toll on all of us but especially on Philipp. They are 15 months apart and best buddies. Philipp had little appetite, turned weaker, aspirated and was hospitalized as well and one thing led to another. He needed a peg tube for nutrition. Then Philipp needed support with breathing requiring a trach. He is at home on a ventilator and we have our own care unit set up. Caring for both of them is quite intense and since last year, we continue to attend to them 24/7 with no time off. On weekends we catch up with sleep. Expenses continue to be high and as more friends read those updates, Philipp and Peter would welcome any additional contributions from new donors.
Both Philipp and Peter recovered and they look actually quite healthy now. They are doing well considering the circumstances. Despite our difficult situation there is a lot of fun and laughter in our home. Philipp, who has a bachelor's degree in psychology, is very interested in politics and topics related to society as a whole. He has been back on his computer which he uses to further educate himself but he also provides unique and pointed remarks about current news topics. Peter has an associate’s degree in video game design. He likewise spends time on his computer, often with on-line friends. Peter is interested in sports and the environment. Their sense of humor is priceless.
Both are full of life and hope and they have a strong spirit. One time, someone told Philipp that one has to be realistic about the progression of his disease. Philipp then commented that… ‘It is also realistic to think that there have been enough people throughout history that beat the odds!’ And then he carried on: ‘whether by faith or medical advancement, I wish more people would have confidence in my recovery’!
We therefore thank you all for your love, your support and for your positive thoughts and prayers towards their recovery!

Here is a letter from Stefan:
"To everyone that is helping us through this challenging time.
In 2014, we almost lost everything and fell on hard times, so we are very grateful for your love and support.
Accepting help was not easy for us as we’ve always been in the position to help others which was nice. It is very humbling to learn to accept help. At the same time we are amazed how strong the support can be when people help each other. Without you, it would have been difficult to provide the support for our son Peter that he needed and needs. In the hospital he made the comment ‘It is because of love that I’m still here’.
After the first hospital stay, Peter was not able to sleep well which impaired his healing and he ended up a second time in ICU. It was found that he requires a BiPAP machine for sleeping and now he gets really good rest. He is at home recovering and he has a healthy appetite which allows him to gain strength again.
Currently the funds help us to pay hospital bills and necessary medical equipment. Further we are able to obtain some extra help for my wife so Peter’s brother Philipp also gets adequate support. And without you that would not be possible. Thank you again for your generosity.
Peter says hi and is inspired by the love that he is receiving from all of you.
Stefan with Karin, Philipp and Peter"
It is simply amazing to see how much support has come in for in the last couple of days. Within 24 hours, the amount of funds raised went from $3,105 to $6,200. Thank you so much for supporting Stefan and his family in this way.
Just a quick update:
Peter is doing better. He is home from from the hospital as of last night. He is such an inspiration! He keeps a strong mind and a good attitude and the family sets goals for what they hope to achieve.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support, prayers, and sweet comments to the family.
Today Stefan took a look at the amount raised for his family for the first time. I do wish you could have seen his expression when he saw the result of your generosity. Thank you very much, and with his consent, I encourage you to share this page with others.
