On Wednesday night, June 20, 2018 Peterborough Challenger Baseball discovered that their specialized equipment had been stolen.

I'm starting this GoFundMe so Peterborough can show the Challengers that we stand behind them! All funds raised will go to the team to replace their equipment. If there are excess funds they will be put towards future endeavors of the team.

Peterborough Challenger Baseball is a league for children and youth with cognitive and/or physical disabilities to enjoy the full benefits of participating in baseball at a level structured to their abilities. The league was started by Bernie Daynes in 2016. They don't use just any equipment; it's designed for children with special needs: Bats with a soft exterior and a harder core; Balls the size of a regular softball but made of high-density soft foam; and protective helmets.

The group ran out to the field on game night only to discover the theft.

“The theft of this equipment was bad enough,” Daynes wrote on Facebook on Wednesday night, “but to make it worse, it was game night tonight and with the theft it looked like my band of happy fun loving ball players would miss out playing a game.” Luckily a neighbour loaned them some equipment so the game could go on.

The league relies on donations and fundraising to operate, and it will be expensive for them to replace the missing equipment.

Thanks in advance for your help!
