Honouring the Life and Legacy of Peter Phillips (1939–2025)

Peter Phillips, beloved father, artist, and one of the founding figures of British Pop Art, passed away peacefully on 25 June 2025.

As we come to terms with his loss, we’re also thinking about how to honour everything he created, believed in, and stood for. His legacy is not just in museums or books, it lives on in the artists he inspired, the rules he broke, and the colour he brought to the world.

Peter often credited his success to the opportunity he had to attend Moseley School of Art, a place that once nurtured raw talent and creative bravery.

To carry that spirit forward, we are creating The Peter Phillips Foundation, a way to support the next generation of bold, curious artists, just as Peter once was.

In his words:

"My advice is: do what you want to do, be who you are — it doesn’t matter what anyone else says… but do it well. As well as you can."

This GoFundMe will help us launch the foundation in Peter’s name, with all contributions going toward:

Grants and residencies for emerging artists
Educational programs to share Peter’s creative process, techniques, and worldview
Archiving, cataloguing, and conserving Peter’s work across collections

Your support will help fund the foundation’s first year. In lieu of flowers or other sympathy gifts, a contribution to the Foundation would be the most meaningful way to honour Peter’s life and continue the work he cared so deeply about.

Peter lived for the art, not the accolades. But now it’s our turn to celebrate what he gave us and help pass it on.
