Personal Fundraiser FANA (SNHS)

My son Alex was elected as the President of the Spanish National Honor Society (SNHS) for his senior year. This society is a true believer of giving back to the community, and being the SNHS this requires a focus on the Spanish / Hispanic community. Being the president Alex was asked to Lead and help ‘come up with ideas’ for a fundraiser of their (SNHS) choice.
The SNHS has created a fundraiser called “LATAS (Cans) For Love” where they will be collecting recyclable cans for cash. These cans will be collected from school, my house, and whoever else would like to donate and they are willing to come to you to get those cans and or a small contribution.
Now for the tear jerker moment…..
Most if not all of my Facebook friends know I am adopted from Colombia South America, in fact I came from an Adoption agency in Bogota called FANA (Foundation for the Assistance of Abandoned Children). I have always been open with my children regarding adoption and the challenges it brings with both adoptees and their new parents.
Alex came home from school and sat me down on the couch to tell me this; after speaking to his peers at the SNHS they as a group have decided to donate all proceeds to the adoption agency I came from. After clearing the tears from my eyes he continued to explain to me in very simple terms, “I am giving back to FANA to thank them for giving you to me.” You cannot imagine the feeling this gave me, knowing the level of understanding my son has for such a deep and personal part of my life.
I did what any mother would do at this point; I bought a ticket to Colombia for Alex and I and we WILL BE DELIVERING A CHECK TO FANA IN PERSON and we will stay for the day to volunteer. I cannot explain in words how important this is to me and to my family, I am asking for your support in making this an amazing gift to an adoption agency that has very little but gives love and support too many children of all ages and continuously works to find each child a home.
