Period.

Tax deductible

We are Erika and Elizabeth Herman, seniors at The Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut, and we are hosting this fundraiser as part of our Senior Project. For our project, we are addressing the lack of access to affordable, safe period products around the world in two ways.

First, we are sewing and creating “Days for Girls” kits. Days for Girls is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works to create “a more free, dignified, and educated world, through providing lasting access to feminine hygiene solutions and health education.” Chapters of and volunteers for the organization create menstrual hygiene kits for girls who lack access to menstrual hygiene materials and/or face stigma in their communities. Each kit lasts up to three years, giving each recipient up to 180 days of her life back, and has been designed using feedback from recipient communities around the world. Days for Girls also sends volunteers to provide training for women in communities that need kits so that they can make their own.

Second, we are hosting a period product drive on campus and a fundraiser for PERIOD. According to the Huffington Post, “Tampons and sanitary pads usually top the list of needs at shelters, since they’re pricey and supporters don’t often donate them.” We hope to spread awareness about this issue and help bring dignity to the women in our community who can’t afford menstrual hygiene products. Donations to this GoFundMe will go to PERIOD. (formerly Camions for Care), an organization that works to deliver period packs to people in need and eliminate the taboos surrounding periods. Physical donations of pads and tampons will be donated to Young Women Rising’s #ProjectPeriod. Young Women rising is a project of the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children and Seniors (CWCS) that hosts #ProjectPeriod, a campaign that aims to gather menstrual supplies for women currently living in shelters and safe houses who lack access these items.
