People's Ride Grand Opening

$388 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 12 people in 18 months
Hi,

I am a substitute teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I believe in creating a new world for tomorrow's youth.  Change needs to happen everywhere.  My whole higher education involved figuring out what that might look like.

People's Ride is about creating a new economy and a better future.  It is about creating a different kind of job.  One where people are able to use both their brain and muscle together and be wholly human.

People's Ride is a worker co-op where those who drive also own and control the business.  If a work week is 5 days, a driver picks up people and collects fares 4 days while on the 5th sit in meetings to make decisions about the company.

The co-op community here in Grand Rapids is growing.  Housing, live/ work co-ops, land, food, beer, bicycling, honey bee, ridesharing co-ops are working together in solidarity to bring about an alternative.

People's Ride has been up and running.  We have been following the Cooperative Development Institute's guide to starting cooperatives.  As in the spirit of the cooperative movement, we collaborate and learn from other ride sharing cooperatives from around the nation.  We have the potential to grow very fast.  Right now we are focusing on putting in place a solid infrastructure.

We are raising money to get our own app branded and have a grand opening.  Any amount makes a difference!  Big or small, $10, $50, $100, $500, you name it.  A contribution of $50 makes you a consumer member and gives you 10% off, $100 gives you 10 rides for half off, $200 gives you 20 rides, $500 gives you 50 rides.   Help build the co-op community in Grand Rapids.

People who do crowdfunding say that their success is owed to how many people are reached.  So please, after you make a contribution, send this to all the friends you can think of.

Big Thanks,

Matt Bair

The other week I went to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Union Co-op Symposium. The Cincinnati Union Cooperative Initiative came out of the United Steel Workers and Mondragon collaboration to form more Mondragon type companies in the United States. Mondragon is the worlds largest worker co-op, made up of 85,000 people, the 7th largest in Spain and brings in $14 billion a year.

To see more pictures and video, look on the People's Ride Facebook or Google Plus page. I made many good connections and learned a lot about what is happening with union co-ops. I even gave some People's Rides while there.

People's Ride is moving ahead steadily and already is bringing in enough to cover the cost of running the business. Our short term goals are to recruit more drivers, fill shifts and develop our own custom ride booking app.

If you make a contribution today, here is a big thanks in advance.

Hi ,

My name is LaShaun I go to Innovation Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. When I graduate I want to attend business school. I am applying to many colleges of which my top pick is Ball State University, University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University.

I have been involved with People’s Ride ever since Mr Bair started talking about it and the Secret to Infinite Wealth in class. I want to own a business when I get older.

This trip to Cincinnati, for the Union Co-op Symposium, will be a good experience. I am interested in learning more about the type of business model that will be talked about there.

The event is this weekend November 13 - 14, 2015. Please donate and help me pay for the $50 registration fee and travel cost in order to attend. You can find more information at the link here: www.cincinnatiunioncoop.org/events/union-cooperative-symposium

Thank you,

LaShaun Williams

Hi My name is Atiff,

I attend Innovation Central High School. When I graduate I want to go to business school. The top College that I would like to attend is Western Michigan University, or I might start out at Grand Rapids Community College.

I almost have my driver's license and am working on my pilot's license to fly planes. I am involved with People’s Ride to get experience and learn more about its business model. One day I want to have a business that fly people from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo, here in Michigan.

I think a trip to the CUCI Union Co-op Symposium will help me connect with a lot of people and create opportunities.

The event is the weekend of November 13 - 14, 2015. Please donate and help me pay for the $50 registration fee and travel cost in order to attend. You can find more information at the link here: www.cincinnatiunioncoop.org/events/union-cooperative-symposium

Sincerely,

Atiff Donaldson
