Update: The Courtepatte family is extremely saddened and heartbroken to announce that Peacha Atkinson has passed away. May she and Nina be eternally united. - December 18, 2015

Hello, my name is Patrick, and I am the oldest son of Peacha Atkinson.

If my mother's name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because in 2005 our family gained national media attention, in the most awful way imaginable.

On a cold April night in Edmonton, Alberta, my beautiful 13 year old sister, Nina Courtepatte, was ruthlessly targeted and then savagely murdered by a group of people she considered her friends.

Our family was completely devastated and our lives forever changed.

My mother, Peacha, never gave up hope that the monsters involved would see the maximum punishment the law would allow. In fact, throughout the numerous trials, acquittals and retrials, she fought hard to make it happen.

She also fought hard to help others:

Rally, Petitions Demand Youth Justice Changes

She is a warm, dedicated mother of 6 children. She taught us to be kind and caring. We love her with all of our hearts.

As strong and determined as she is, in July 2015 Peacha Atkinson was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer.

It's now December, and between chemotherapy and the Cancer, she has developed a serious infection that her body is no longer able to fight. As a result, she has slipped into unconsciousness and is now on life support.

Her prognosis isn't good and we will soon be forced to make the decision that no family should ever have to make.

We created this page to ask for anyone who is able, to please donate to help our family cover the cost of her funeral and associated fees.

We take solace in the belief that our beloved mother will soon be reunited with Nina, and her broken heart will finally be mended.

May you and your families be safe, happy and healthy, this Christmas and always.

Thank you for reading,

Patrick Courtepatte & family
