Please support my grandma as she overcomes fraud.
My name is Shanea, and the woman in the photo is my grandmother, Carol. My grandma is a mother of five children, all of whom she raised as a single mom. When my mom decided to have children, she went with her to China and Vietnam to adopt me and my sister, respectively.

A little before Thanksgiving, my grandma received a call from who she thought was a family friend, asking for money to get him through a legal situation. He asked for $8,500, and my grandma, being the loving and selfless person she is, sent it to his lawyers in New Jersey via FedEx. He said he would pay her back in a few days.

A few days later my grandma got a phone call from who she thought was FedEx, explaining that a few times each year the company awards $1 million to a random client. She was supposedly the lucky winner. "FedEx" told my grandma they would send her money if she sent them $30,000 in advance to pay for the tax on her prize money. My grandmother excitedly took out two loans totalling $10,500 and $20,000 from the bank in order to pay for this. This money was to be sent to New Jersey as well.

My grandmother is a victim of fraud. By placing bills between the pages of a magazine and through money grams sent to a Walmart in New Jersey, my grandma sent all of her life savings to a man that happened to find out details about her life. The authorities have been contacted, and footage of the New Jersey Walmart has been scanned, but fraud is a relatively hard crime to solve. My grandma will likely not get her $30,000 back.

My grandmother is the most caring, warm, loving person you could meet -- the fact that she sent $8,500 to who she thought was a family friend without question says a lot about her character. She has worked hard her whole life for this money, and with one fell swoop it was taken from her. Fraud is a crime that she never thought would happen to her (as she's also a very trusting person), but here it is, turning things upside-down.

I, and the rest of my family, would be so thankful to anyone willing to contribute. I am asking anyone to contribute anything they are comfortable with to help my grandma pay back the loans she took from the bank, and get back up on her feet.

I thank anyone who has read this far. Besides helping my grandma, my family also wants to spread this story to prevent fraud from happening to other people. Thank you all again, and take care!
