Humboldt Ice Rink Dec.4th-Jan.17th

In September of 2014 a group of Fortuna businesses owners threw out an idea of an ice rink in their shopping center to boost sales for the holidays.
Those businesses brought the idea to the Fortuna Business Improvement District (FBID) for support. The FBID Board of Directors agreed it would be a great project in the City of Fortuna, but that it was bigger than FBID. FBID suggested a community group gather to meet about the rink. That group of a dozen business professionals started working on the Humboldt Ice Rink for 2015.
In spring of 2015 the McLean Foundation gifted a group of HSU interns to the City of Fortuna. The City Manager then gifted two interns to work with the Humboldt Ice Rink. Their main objective was to see if the Ice Rink would "put heads in beds" and boost our tourism durning our down months. The results to the answer were no, the Humboldt Ice Rink would not put heads in beds. However, their reports showed that more than 55% of Humboldt County could afford to use the Humboldt Ice Rink at least once during the 5+ week season.
This was very exciting new for the committee and shortly after we started to apply for grants, seek sponsorships, and find partnerships with our Humboldt County Schools. As of right now we have 18 schools in Humboldt County that would like to bring more than 1400 students to the ice rink over the 5 week period. Our teachers are excited, parents and grandparents are excited and we have now had over 40 businesses supporting and or sponsors this rink because they are excited.
We have enough money to put down on the rink, but the next installment of $30,000 is due November 1st. The last payment of $30,000 will be due November 27th.
