West Wind Acres Legal Defense Fund

  AMSTERDAM, NY
West Wind Acres raised chickens, sheep, goats, pigs and cattle on pasture.  Our cattle and sheep are 100% grass-fed, we move them daily to fresh pasture where they enjoy clean fresh grasses, clovers, and weeds. We feed our cattle using Management Intensive Grazing practices, they are moved daily to fresh grass. Both the land and cattle benefit from MIG.

Each section of pasture is used for 1 day, and then has at least 21 days to recover from the pressure the animals put on it. More diverse forages grow back, thicker, and more numerous than the last grazing. Our cattle benefit, by always having clean, pathogen free pasture.

Our cattle are tended 2 - 3 times a day to insure they have proper food and water which exceed industry accepted farming practices.

We raise our meat chickens on pasture from 3-4 weeks old, until slaughter at 8-16 weeks of age.  They enjoy grass, bugs, etc. and are offered non-gmo grain as well.

Currently we have approximately 100 pigs on pasture and wood lots.  These pigs fill their bellies whatever they can root up, grass(hay in the winter), and are supplemented with non-gmo grains.

This winter was exceptionally harsh, however we kept our animals in near optimal body condition, by providing extra feed, and ensuring that they were properly hydrated.   Some days our animals were provided with fresh water as many at 5 times.  However on a few occations they were only watered 2 times per day.  On one such occation the police showed up.    You can read the rest of our story on the internet.

Three of the horses were transported to a nearby rescue farm.  The entire event was released to the media, permantly damaging the reputation of the farm, before we were able to find out all the facts and defend the allegations in open court.

Two different veterinarians have inspected all of the animals and found them to be in perfect health.  Yet these charges still need to be defended and that takes a considerable amount of legal fees.

We are a simple small farm grown from just a few animals and a loyal customer base.  It would be a shame to have to shut it all down for one unjust and unfortunate event.  West wind acres has always open about the raising practices and routinely has customers of the farm come to visit.

The go fund is to be used for bond on the horses and for any related  expenses in defending West Wind Acres, and staying in business.

Without your help, this small town farm may have to close.

Please feel free to visit the facebook page to read more.

Kindest regards with many thanks,

Thank you for all of your help, support, and donations over the last year or more. West Wind Acres would likely have closed last year if it wasn't for the generosity of so many people. Thank you!

We are hosting a Farm Festival at our farm on July 16 from 10am- 4 pm. I hope you can join!

After over 10 months our court case looks like it will come to a close in the very near future. This Friday I need to pay $9,000 to cover some of the care of my horses. I could use some more help. Can you help get the total amount raised to $72,000?

It was almost 10 months ago that I asked for assistance in my legal battle. Over 2,000 people rushed to our aid, and raised money to help. I am still in awe at how quickly the community stood with me, and helped. Without the generosity of you all I would never have been able to fight these charges, keep the farm running, and keep my family together and fed, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Throughout this year we have made many improvements to our farm including installing power to our barn, new fence, erected additional shelters, constructed new horse stalls, installed 2 new wells, 2 new stock watering tanks using recycled tires, and many more things. Your generosity helped to make that all possible. Thank you, we wouldn’t be where we are today without you.
Future Improvements: In the near future I plan to install at least 4 more tire tanks, 2 more greenhouses, and fence an additional 40 acres of woods for the pigs. I will be installing a permanent weaning area for piglets, that will help us to wean, teach piglets to respect fence, and rotate them quickly through small paddocks that will be planted with forages to improve their growth rates and maximize their health.
Growth: West Wind Acres is ready to help more families provide our pasture raised meats to their families. In 2016 we will offer 125 CSA,
Currently, I am also looking for an additional properties to lease for more cattle and sheep pastures.
The End is in Sight: In the very near future this case will come to a close, and the horses should be returned to us at that point. I can’t go into details, as it hasn’t been finalized.
I am going to have to ask for help one more time as we close this case out. To close out this case I will be agreeing to pay a portion of the expenses for Romeo, Juliet, Sydney, and our new colt over the last 10 months.

Good morning! I wanted to take a quick minute to update all of you. First of all thank you again for all of your support. It means a lot to us. Some days thinking about that is enough to get me into high gear when I want to crawl under a rock.

Our court battle is moving along, very slowly, but moving. I am hopeful that I will have a good update on the case in the next couple of weeks.

This week I started working on the tire tanks, I have at least 4 planned, but will likely install more. After I get the hang of them, I am hoping to have a seminar, and trial a several different ideas that I have as well.

The first of 2 greenhouses is also started, I have the posts installed, and have started installing the hoops. This coming week is going to be beautiful, I plan to finish the hoops and hopefully get the cover installed.

We sell meat from our farm house every weekend on Saturdays from 10-2 pm and on Sundays from 1-4 pm. Please stop by to purchase some of our amazing pasture raised meats.

Over the summer we have grown the farm tremendously. This year we had our best year ever with meat chickens, we started 1200 meat chicks, this morning the last batch is being processed. Much of these chickens are in storage and will sell over the winter.

Our pig herd was less than 50 going into last winter. Currently we are around 170 pigs with many more fall litters coming. In 2014 we processed 48 pigs, we currently have 50 pigs that will be ready for butcher in the next 3 months or so. This growth has been hard financially, especially with court. However, it will be well worth it as we come into 2016 with plenty of inventory.

We are currently pre-selling 1/2 and whole pigs, for December and early next year. https://squareup.com/market/west-wind-acres

Our CSA sales have increased over the last year especially the first quarter of 2015. Currently we have 25 CSA customers, by March of 2016 my goal is 120 CSA customers. We currently have drop points from Saratoga Springs to Sleepy Hollow Lake in Greene County. I would love to travel even farther south, and in to NYC with in the next few months.

Thank you again for believing in West Wind Acres

The POLICE STATE continues to strong arm law-abiding citizens in an attempt to prove they have absolute power over the lives of American Citizens. This is a despicable, shameful, pathetic demonstration of the rise of Communism in America. If you don't believe it, wait until it happens to YOU! Please show your support for Joshua Rockwood. Call the Prosecutor's office, the police chief, the city mayor and call out the militia if necessary to stop this nonsense! American's will not, must not, should not allow this to happen.

Anyone who believes that a small farm operation is not going to do everything necessary to keep their animals healthy is a NUT CASE. Animals are expensive. . . You would not risk loosing your lively hood because you were to lazy to break ice. God have mercy on us that we allow our government such uncontrolled power. Praying for you.

@Lynne According to the story above, they *did* "break ice", and the water was only frozen for a few hours between rounds. Same as my outdoor cat - who got her water replaced with fresh warm water twice a day (which she greatly appreciated). As to whose story to believe, I've encountered far more liars within government than without in my 55 years. I'd tell you the infamous parking ticket incident from my teen years, but it is too long. And the government story is not actually in conflict with the farmers story. They are just imposing impossible and unreasonable demands that have no real connection to the animals welfare. Having customers visit the farm makes most of the government regulation completely unncessary. If you see sickly animals, you aren't likely to want to eat them. The government should only be involved with deceptive practices, like giving the animals drugs to substitute for proper care.

I know that you are thoroughly tired of this entire debacle, and I would just like to say how very sorry I am that all of this has happened to your family. I would be very interested in knowing how someone came up with a price of taking care of a few horses for 10 months at over 9 grand. It certainly seems that you have no doubt been "forced" into this decision to try and end this ordeal. I do hope that you may be able to bring some kind of suit against every person involved in this. It's been a pretty good example of "buying some justice" and basically now a form of "extortion" to get you to give in. God Bless you all. This is only my opinion but I've seen similar things happen to other people and it never fails to remind me that the law is an ass. I have a degree in Criminal Justice and regret every penny I ever spent on it, I'd have rather joined the Mafia, they are a much more honest bunch overall.

It's obvious that Josh and his family will need more money for legal fees as the Town of Glenville drags this case out looking to save face but most likely will need the money to get his animals back once all is said and done. I hope a 2nd "gofundme" account will be started so that it doesn't come out of his family's pocket. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they hit him with as far as the boarding goes. Personally, I believe all charges should be dropped, he should be issued a public apology by the Town of Glenville and Glenville should have to pay the fees which are still racking up to this day. Josh and his family will need everyone's support now more than ever.

Joshua should get out of legal land and go to lawful land, as a man he can supersede the complaints of legal land with the claims of lawful land; www.FleeTheMatrix.com at the top of the page; call Karl Lentz or some of the folks listed there, and learn man created the codes, man is god to (the creator of) the codes, go into your own court, putting forth your claim for the return of your "property" (the horses), levy a claim for lost money for all persecutors and don't have naive expectations of goodness from the legal land of codes; Living by codes is akin to giving your toddler a list of rules to follow to learn to walk, whereas experience has much more info and is of life; Law is simple and is the reason that you think these codes are unfair and why you see them as inadequate for the affairs of life--they can be training wheels to get you to function as a responsible man or woman, but don't live there; Ask "Who is the man or woman that brings a claim of harm or loss?" and by familiarity with common law become more powerful than the legal system, as the god to it; Put forth your claim as a man escape the nightmare of legal land in the way that you feel you are doing in the land of codes, but you are not using the proper tools.

Hey Josh, I'm passing on to you one of my favorite quotes. I think it is a good one for anyone but I think it is very apropos for the life of the family farmer. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~ Winston S. Churchill You are one of the many unsung, committed hero's holding the line and purposely, doggedly, working towards providing healthy and high quality foods to the public. It takes a very special person to do what you do. All the very best to you and your family.
