Pay It Forward for Miss Jenn

Hi fellow KinderCare parents,

Sammy’s mom here. Sammy is a silly little 8-month-old who joined the KinderCare family in February. For me, returning to work and leaving my little 3-month-old nugget with “strangers” was terrifying. In short order, my fears were put to rest when I saw the genuine care, nurture, and devotion displayed by each and every one of the KinderCare teachers.

Recently, I learned that one of these amazing teachers, Miss Jenn, was fighting a battle that no family should have to endure. In 2018, after a yearlong roller coaster of misdiagnoses from doctors, Miss Jenn’s husband Gordon was diagnosed with an invasive and aggressive form of bladder cancer.

At the time of this devastating diagnosis, Gordon was given two options: have his bladder completely removed and undergo a lengthy recovery OR try to save his bladder with a resection surgery that had a high likelihood of the cancer eventually returning.

As a small business owner of an automotive service & repair shop, Gordon knew that a lengthy recovery from bladder removal surgery meant having to close his shop, leaving his staff unemployed and his family without their primary source of income. So instead Gordon elected to have the resection surgery with the hope that it would provide him and his family some critical time to figure out a longer-term plan.

In January 2019 after having two surgeries for the resection, Gordon and his family received news that he was in remission. The resection had worked!

Sadly, the joy was short-lived. An extensive follow-up biopsy revealed the cancer had progressed and was now in his bladder wall. Even with radiation and chemotherapy, doctors predict the cancer will continue to return and they recommend the full bladder removal to save his life.

As we all know, the out of pocket costs associated with treating cancer are astronomical. Combining those costs with the loss of a family’s primary income is simply unmanageable.

During such an ominous time, Miss Jenn should be able to focus all of her energy on helping her husband prepare for his surgery and helping her entire family find ways to cope.

So, what can we do to help? Let’s pay it forward and rally around Miss Jenn and her family to make this transition a little easier.

Any donation large or small is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
