Gary Daniels  Churchdown, ENG

My youngest step son, Gary, has created this fund on behalf of the family.

I recently tweeted how I wished I could answer all your wonderful messages of support individually but there are so many.  They have all been greatly appreciated, and both Paul and I had no idea how people felt, it has been truly amazing the outpouring of support.

We have have already received so many messages offering help or donations to chosen charities.  Certain magicians have also offered to deliver shows and donate the ticket sales to a charity of our choice too, hence the creation of this page.

We discussed and settled on using "gofundme" as it allows the monies raised to be split across our four chosen charities:
1. Brain Tumour Research.Org - whom exist to seek further research into brain tumours, their cause and hopefully their cure one day.
2. Royal Berks Charity - as they have supported, and continue to support, Paul and I fantastically throughout his illness.
3. Grand Order of Water Rats - a fantastic organisation who have helped thousands of individuals and organisations over the years.  Paul himself was King Rat for two consequtive years and as such has close personal links with their fund too.
4. Royal Theatrical Fund - whose aim is the relief of any person in need who has professionally practised or contributed to the theatrical arts.  Be it on stage, radio, films or television or any other medium by which such arts may be presented in the future.

These charities mean a great deal to Paul, myself and our family.  We all hope that through this sad time the fund raised go towards providing help to others.

Thank you
Debbie, Paul, Paul Jnr, Martin & Gary

Hi,

Apologies for not sending through an update earlier but as you can no doubt imagine it has been a hectic time trying to bring life back into some form of normality for Debbie, the rest of the family and myself.
We also, sadly, lost a cousin to a brain tumour too so relived the loss of Dad again.

We are so pleased to say that with your donations, dedicated fund raising shows, and donations from the family we have now raised in the region of £30000.
As a family we donated £20000 to Brain Tumour research and the other charities have also now received their monies too.

So from Debbie, myself and my family.... An enormous thank you and we hope that the donations will make a difference to the lives of others too.

Best regards

Gary

Just a very quick, but heartfelt thank you for all the donations.
We cannot believe that in just 7 days we have gone through the £2000.
Our aim is to give the charities a fantastic boost to their fundraising so please feel free to share the fund.

Paul is being denied the opportunity to try a safe, novel, treatment due to bad & immoral laws: http://www.patentsencyclopedia.com/app/20140287067 "Description: [0001] The present invention relates to the use of a combination of cannabinoids in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of cancer. In particular the cancer to be treated is a brain tumour, more particularly a glioma, more particularly still a glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and the preferred cannabinoid combination comprises tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). " Read more here: http://www.gwpharm.com/GW%20Pharmaceuticals%20plc%20Announces%20US%20Patent%20Allowance%20for%20Use%20of%20Cannabinoids%20in%20Treating%20Glioma.aspx "GW Pharmaceuticals plc Announces US Patent Allowance for Use of Cannabinoids in Treating Glioma 11 December 2013 London, UK, 11 December 2013: GW Pharmaceuticals plc (Nasdaq: GWPH, AIM: GWP, "GW" or the “Company”), a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing novel therapeutics from its proprietary cannabinoid product platform, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. Application Serial Number 12/996,124, a patent which covers the use of cannabinoids for treating glioma. Glioma describes any tumor that arises from the glial tissue of the brain. Glioblastoma, or GBM, is a particularly aggressive tumor that forms from abnormal growth of glial tissue. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, GBM accounts for approximately 46% of the 22,500 new cases of brain cancer diagnosed in the United States each year. Treatment options are limited and expected survival is a little over one year. GBM is considered a rare disease by the FDA and the European Medicines Agency, or EMA. The subject patent specifically covers a method for treating glioma in a human using a combination of cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) wherein the cannabinoids are in a ratio of from 1:1 to 1:20 (THC:CBD) with the intent to reduce cell viability, inhibit cell growth or reduce tumor volume. A Notice of Allowance is issued after the USPTO makes a determination that a patent can be granted from an application. The issued patent from this application will provide an exclusivity period until June 2029." Science KNOWS how it works/the mechanisms of action: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27713298/Web/Cure/How_It_Works.html "Cancer-specific Cytotoxicity of Cannabinoids First let’s look at what keeps cancer cells alive, then we will come back and examine how the cannabinoids CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) unravels cancer’s aliveness. In every cell there is a family of interconvertible sphingolipids that specifically manage the life and death of that cell. This profile of factors is called the “Sphingolipid Rheostat.” If endogenous ceramide (a signaling metabolite of sphingosine-1-phosphate) is high, then cell death (apoptosis) is imminent. If ceramide is low, the cell is strong in its vitality. Very simply, when THC connects to the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptor site on the cancer cell, it causes an increase in ceramide synthesis which drives cell death. A normal healthy cell does not produce ceramide in the presence of THC, thus is not affected by the cannabinoid. The cancer cell dies, not because of cytotoxic chemicals, but because of a tiny little shift in the mitochondria. Within most cells there is a cell nucleus, numerous mitochondria (hundreds to thousands), and various other organelles in the cytoplasm. The purpose of the mitochondria is to produce energy (ATP) for cell use. As ceramide starts to accumulate, turning up the Sphingolipid Rheostat, it increases the mitochondrial membrane pore permeability to cytochrome c, a critical protein in energy synthesis. Cytochrome c is pushed out of the mitochondria, killing the source of energy for the cell. Ceramide also causes genotoxic stress in the cancer cell nucleus generating a protein called p53, whose job it is to disrupt calcium metabolism in the mitochondria. If this weren’t enough, ceramide disrupts the cellular lysosome, the cell’s digestive system that provides nutrients for all cell functions. Ceramide, and other sphingolipids, actively inhibit pro-survival pathways in the cell leaving no possibility at all of cancer cell survival. The key to this process is the accumulation of ceramide in the system. This means taking therapeutic amounts of CBD and THC, steadily, over a period of time, keeping metabolic pressure on this cancer cell death pathway. " Even if it didn't work, it would absolutely ease his final days. Denial of medicine is a CRIME! One day we will hold Government to account. p.s. Don't shoot the messenger!

MAGICAL LEGEND PAUL DANIELS PASSED AWAY TODAY... Extremely sad news this morning as I awoke to discover that Magical Legend Paul Daniels has passed away. Just as he was for many others around the world, Paul was one of my true Hero's and certainly his Television Shows were one of the main reasons that I got so involved in the World of Magic at such an early age. I worked (with my dad) alongside his son Paul Daniels Junior who now runs the Magic and Fancy Dress - Paul Daniels Party Shop in Wigan at the Paul Daniels Magic Museum which was on the Golden Mile in Blackpool many, many years ago now... Growing up I never missed one of his Television Shows and like many other kids had all the Paul Daniels Magic books and such like. I remember writing to Paul when I was quite young and he replied with great advice to INVEST IN MAGIC BOOKS and not to waste money on buying tricks as way more value could be obtained from studying Magic books, this was a piece of advice that was repeated to me by The Late Bill Thompson at The House of Secrets in Blackpool as well, a peice of advice that is VERY TRUE was worth its weight in godl to me and which I would advise all Magicians starting out today to also take notice of. I also clearly remember how much I valued the signed photographs that he and Debbie so kindly sent me. But then the magic bug bit big for me and indeed I started to go to Magic Conventions and would often talk with Paul at these events where he always gave great advice and was truly generous with his time. Aged 16 when my first book "Original Magic" was advertised in Abra Magic Magazine I was stunned to open my mail the day or so after the advert appeared to find a letter from Paul Daniels and a cheque from his personal account in the name "Newton Edward Daniels" to purchase a copy of my book. It seems surreal even now as I type this to be able to say that my Magical Hero Paul Daniels bought the first ever copy of my first ever magic book. Over the years I was lucky enough to see Paul (and Debbie McGee ) perform live on numerous occasions, and the one routine (aside from the Chop Cup) that I always loved more than anything was his rendition of "The Electric Chairs" as per https://youtu.be/RgRCOLwIJAQ and also as per https://youtu.be/jrTFpycT-lo Indeed several years ago now whilst visiting his Wigan Magic Shop I spoke with Paul at length and offered him several thoushand pounds to make a DVD with me teaching his Electric Chairs Routine, but much to my dissapointment, he declined... He did however in a cryptic manner reveal to me that the first Secret was more inside of the box than on the box shall we shall.. Then just before seeing him perform at The Comedy Store in Manchester, we bumped into each other on the way to the Toilets and in his own cheeky manner he revealed to me that he was very good at Ventriolquism and tipped me off that this was very useful for cueing people on stage without getting noticed.. Then when a few years later Luis de Matos released "Bravura" the DVD set from Paul Daniels as per http://www.pauldanielsmagicshop.com/paul-daniels-bravura.html well as I sat and watched the explanation of the Electric Chairs routine I realised that Paul had taught me all the bits, but done so bit by bit on each occasion we met again. MEGA ADVICE = If your into Magic whether as a beginnner or established, you will find no Better DVD set than "Bravura" to not only teach you some Secrets, but more importantly to teach you how to structure an Act, to work an audience and well in short THE REAL SECRETS OF TRUE MAGIC. I also recall so clearly Paul giving my wife Rachel Smith advice after his Comedy Store show about using Cards when you have small hands and being wiht my friend Benjamin Hughes at Pauls Wigan Shop when he was tapping a pencil on things and then a spooky ghostly tap would echo back for no logical reason, it seemed like real magic indeed. Paul told us to look in Martin Gardeners "Encyclopedia of Impromtu Magic" for the Secret (which I did) and also told us that was one of the books he reccomended people to study more than any other.. It was also a joy to get lessons from Paul in the shop as he taught Ben and me how to do the Boomerang Rubber Band which you can learn from his DVD here - http://www.pauldanielsmagicshop.com/paul-daniels-inner-secrets-of-professional-magic-dvd.html As I sit here recalling happy memories of Paul, the two things that keeps jumping into my are: 1) The time he taught me in person how to do the Classic Force including doing it behind my back. Since the day he taught me that many years ago I've been using the Classic Force and also showing off by doing it for Magicians from behind my back with massive impact, so thank you sinecrely for that Paul. 2) The time when I was present and someone asked him the question of how do you decide how much to charge for a show and his answer was alon

Would love to donate and give money to this fabulous cause. I like many others have watched this lovely man and grown up with his magic. I wondered if there is a way I can donate by post or something as cannot do it online.? I have also been luckily enough to have had the last book of his card tricks sent to me by Paul himself after I lost it and he sent me the last book ever in print and signed it. Ive also had his autobiography sent to me by him after winning it on his ebay account and met him several times at his Stevenage shows, and saddened to hear of my childhood hero having this terrible disease. I hope that through the money raised helps everyone go through the heartache painlessly.

My heart goes out to Debbie and the rest of the family. We lost my wonderful dad at 67 to GBM4 last July. Its a truly devastating disease and has very little funding for research (less than 2% of cancer research money) and as the biggest killer of all under 40's with the highest terminal outcome rate needs more. We have also as a family been raising as much money and awareness for the Brain tumour charity who are wonderful. Me and my daughter spent the afternoon in the House of Commons at the launch of the report into funding for Brain Tumours, there is a debate for MP's mid April 16. What we all now need to do is speak or request that all our MP's attend the debate and hear the facts, changes will not happen until it is pushed forward. Please all help make this go forward for all the fighters, carers and those who have already passed. Rest in Peace Paul.X
