Paula Murphy is a hard working, loving, and caring mother of three. She has worked all her life to support herself and her family, but had an unfortunate accident last May. The woman who hit Paula and the vehicle she was in is a Meth addict, the hit severely injured Paula and two of her friends and killing another.

Paula's C3 and C4 vertebrae were crushed, resulting in total paralysis below the neck. Paula is now on a ventilator, and can only speak for a couple hours each day. Paula must have assistance for every aspect of life, from turning in bed to eating or drinking.
Paula's health insurance was poor at best, and the driver that hit her had no insurance, no license, and was driving another person's uninsured vehicle.
She has many needs that cannot be met with her current equipment and services that insurance will not cover. These include: An electric medical hoist to move her from her bed to her motorized wheelchair (which is breath controlled), a specialized shower chair, a fully functional electric hospital bed and any equipment to control a computer/phone.
She has recently been approved for Medicaid Disability, but it has not yet begun paying for anything, and they are unaware if it will back pay any of her medical expenses.
I am one of Paula's caretakers, and we are seeking a better life for her. We live in a very small, rural area with little access to services and medical specialists. Due to her ventilator, Paula is unable to get many services that might be provided in larger areas. Paula constantly feels like she has little control in her life. Any improvement in her quality of life will enrich her not only physically, but mentally as well.
