Patti Has Lost All in NorCal Fire
Patti Meyer lives in Santa Rosa, California where the fire swept through in the past couple of days. Patty was rushed from her home in the night by police and had no time to get to her animals. Gone are a variety of livestock, and her 8 beloved dogs, Bernese Mountain Dogs and a Flatcoated Retriever, and a 3 week old litter of Bernese Mountain Dog puppies. She's lost her home and everything she had. Anything that you can help with would be appreciated ... If you prefer to donate gift cards to stores, I can direct you in how to send them also. Thank you
Some of you may have heard that my friend Patti Meyer lost her home and all her dogs in the Sonoma County fires. She's a fellow Berner breeder and club member. Several of her dogs came down from my boys Tucker and Martea and even those that did not -- they are still Berners and still family. Her Annabelle had a litter of pups at the time .... she was a Martea daughter -- a littermate to my own girl Mimic ..... I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that they are all gone.
I know it's hard for us dog (and animal) lovers to imagine leaving without our furry kids but you can't imagine how fast this fire sprung up and moved through. She had no choice. She was woken up by the firefighters at her door and was essentially dragged from her house despite her protests and pleas for her dogs. They told her they would try to get them out and they did leave the doors open. Patti was put in a police car and driven a few miles up the road.
This is unimaginable for me -- tears are flowing for me just writing this and I know it is nothing in comparison for how Patti must feel.
Unfortunately, Patti does not have much family. She's an only child. Her mother passed away about 10 years ago and Patti spent the subsequent years caring for her elderly father until he passed away this last year. This was Patti's childhood home and where she has lived the majority of her life. Her animals were her children and everything to her. She has lost everything.
For those that have asked what they can do to help, we are working on setting up a way for people to donate directly by sending checks or via PayPal to avoid fees charged by services like GoFundMe. Sheila Jones and/or I will post details soon. In the meantime, I'm sure gift cards would be helpful and appreciated. Patti had to leave with only the pajamas she was wearing, her shoes and her phone. I ordered an Amazon gift card this morning and had it sent to her via text message. I also plan to pick up a couple gift cards when I go grocery shopping this afternoon. Gift cards from places like a Target where she can get needed toiletries and clothing, grocery stores, gas stations (her vehicles were burned but I am giving her my old mini-van to use), etc., would be helpful. Those can be mailed directly to her or for stores that offer online ordering, you could text, Facebook message or email a picture of the gift card for her to use for online ordering. Any little bit would help and be appreciated.
I heart aches for her and everyone else that have lost their homes, family members and animals. The devastation we are seeing is unbelievable.
