Please consider helping this legal-fund that bears on patient and physician advocacy.   Hospital Mistakes are estimated to be a leading cause of death.  Systems errors may claim between 1/4 million to 400,000 lives every year, nearly 10-fold those from opioid-overdoses.  Fear of reprisals for reporting hospital deficiencies exerts a chilling effect on transparency, remedies, and violates patients' rights.  This "Culture of Silence" of hospital corporate medicine also puts physicians at odds with their Hippocratic duty to patients, i.e., to "keep them from  harm and injustice."              The petition against the Texas Medical Board,  ("TMB"; District Ct., Travis Cty, D-1-GN-17-005957) claims that this state agency served as a proxy retaliatory device for physician reporting of verified healthcare violations associated with numerous patient deaths or harm at a hospital. (See District Ct, Travis County, No. D-1-GN-15-003129).             The lawsuit also claims violation of due process rights, abuse of power, official oppression, and other improprieties by an agency without active oversight or independent accounting for complaints of alleged wrongdoing.              If successful, the said cases would be the first to 1) hold the TMB liable for frivilous actions (Civ. Prac. Remedies Code 105) and 2) hold a Texas hospital accountable for unlawful retaliations for physician reporting healthcare violations to protect patients (Health & Safety Code 161.135).             Your contribution to assist with  legal costs and expenses will be a critical  force for change, i.e. advancing legal safeguards for physicians' rights and patient advocacy.
