Parallax Shift—Altering Reality
Our robotics team, Parallax Shift, is based at Lakeville North High School and consists of three sophomores and five freshmen. We are a rookie robotics team with two teammates who have prior experience participating in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge (FTC). FTC is a program in which a new challenge is presented to us each year with a certain goal for us to accomplish. We are then tasked with designing, constructing, and programming a robot. This is used in competition with a two on two format. In addition to the robot, we participate in outreach, a portion of FTC that entails volunteering in our community and spreading the word about robotics, as well as creating a business plan, an engineering notebook, and branding our team. We have already dedicated many hours to the FIRST organization and are anticipating much more in this season. However, we can’t reach our goals without the support of our community and local businesses.
Your Support Would Benefit Our Team Tremendously!
The Lakeville robotics teams, although based in our schools, don’t receive much monetary support from our district, and the materials for robotics and registering for competitions are quite expensive. Your sponsorship and/or donations would be very effective in improving our robotics program and help to strengthen the skills of our students both within the competition and out. The experience that FIRST offers to students in technologies, science, and engineering is invaluable and will help to prepare us for our futures. Every donation, is greatly appreciated and contributes to our funds for building the robot and reaching out to the community! Because we plan to go far tournament-wise in the future, sponsorships are greatly appreciated. For some tournaments, the registration fee is up to $1,000 and that doesn’t even count transport and other costs! Although that seems like a large hill to climb, with the help of our friendly sponsors, we can do it!
Accomplishments
On February 10-11, 2017 we competed in the Minnesota FTC State Tournament. We won 1st place for PTC Design and we were part of the winning robot alliance. This season there were 48 teams competing at the state tournament and we were one of the eight teams selected to advance to the FTC Super Regional Championship tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in March 2017.
To compete at the FTC Super Regional Championship tournament, we need to cover a number of costs including tournament registration, lodging, food, travel expenses, and more. We are attempting to raise fund to defray some of our costs for this tournament.
